Chapter 90
Dad was the one in charge of the family when it came to decision–making on serious matters. What surprised me was that even Mom was determined to do this.
“I’ll go too. Although Ally made some stupid mistakes over the years, she’s still my daughter,
” she said.
“That place is too chaotic, so bringing you along would only be a burden to us. Just stay home and wait for my news,” Dad instructed.
He quickly delegated tasks to everyone, having them coordinate things in Jackville, then went to book a flight that night itself.
They went to the airport as a group. Meanwhile, I felt that something was off. Why didn’t Amber show up at this critical juncture? It was quite unlike her usual behavior.
She had always been attentive to matters that concerned me. Even when Shane planned to visit Jackville, she managed to get wind of it and persuaded him against it. Yet, she was completely quiet on this day when the entire family was involved.
For some reason, I believed that Amber was setting up an intricate plan, and the plan was not limited to matters of love.
Just what was she up to? If she was not at the Schultz residence, could she be at the Lundberg
residence?
I felt uneasy and subconsciously drifted to Grandma’s side.
Ever since Grandma obtained the human–skin book, she never parted with it. Because of that,
I could see her whenever I came over.
She was kneeling down, offering a prayer for me.
I watched in a daze as she prayed to the religious statue. The statue’s gaze seemed, but with so many people suffering from misfortune, how could God save everyone? The unfortunate ones
would still suffer.
“Grandma,” Amber’s voice could be heard coming from beyond the door, which made my heart skip a beat.
- 207.
My intuition was right. She came to Grandma’s place right after the Schultzes departed. She even timed her visit to coincide with the time Rebecca prepared soup for Grandma in the kitchen.
Upon hearing her voice, Grandma’s gaze turned icy. “What are you doing here? This is a sacred and holy ground. Get out of here!”
Amber looked a little different today. In the past, even if she did not like Grandma, she would

still put up a friendly facade. But this time, there was a smug grin on her face as she ignored Grandma’s warning, waltzing right in.
She glanced at the religious statue, then asked smugly, “You’re praying again? Will all this praying bring that person back to you?”
“Get lost!” Grandma yelled.
Amber ignored her admonishment and walked over to the meditation corner.
“If praying to this statue grants miracles, then I should… What should I pray for, hmm?”
Amber continued her monologue, “Ah, right. Should I pray for Allison to never come back?”
With that said, she bowed deeply in prayer.
Grandma was already racked with worry about my safety. When she heard those words, she lost her composure. “What nonsense are you talking about, Amber?!”
“Nonsense? Oh, Grandma, aren’t you the naïve one? If Allison really could make it back, why couldn’t you guys find her after searching high and low?”
Grandma seemed to have a sudden epiphany, then stared straight at Amber. “Do you know something?”
Amber sat down on the bench by the side with one leg lifted, no longer bothering to keep up the obedient image she usually showed everyone.
“I don’t mind telling you that Allison is in my hands, Grandma. If you want her to return safely, you’ll have to trade for it with your shares.”
Upon hearing that, Grandma glared at her furiously. “What did you say?”
Amber took out a diamond necklace from her handbag and tossed it over, the large diamonds shimmering under the sunlight.
Be it the design or the diamond’s luster, the necklace was very eye–catching.
“You should recognize this, right?” Amber scoffed.
I was dumbstruck when I saw the necklace.
These days, I had been suspecting that Amber had something to do with my death, but that was merely speculation.
After all, there was no evidence that she was the one who did it. At the end of the day, she was still my biological sister. Even if she wanted to steal Shane from me, she wouldn’t harbor enough hatred to actually kill me,
