begging for forgiveness by now. And yet, you still have the nerve to act so arrogant!”
Stephen’s face twisted with anger, his humiliation boiling over. Being called out for his cowardice and deceit made him snap. He raised his hand, ready to strike me again, desperate to salvage what little pride he had left.
But I was ready this time. My hand moved toward a vase on the table, ready to strike back.
Let him try–if this monster dared to hit me, I’d smash the vase right over his head. Whether he got hurt or worse, I could call it self–defense.
Before I could act, someone burst into the room and delivered a solid punch to Stephen’s face. The force sent him reeling as the man followed up with a string of furious curses.
“I can’t stand men who hit women! Your wife was apologizing to me just a few days ago, trying to get me to drop my complaint against you! I was so pissed that I made her drink three liters of vodka!
“That fool actually did it, all for you. She nearly drank herself to death. And yet, with a wife like that, you don’t even cherish her. You’re nothing but a beast!”
Stephen froze, stunned by the accusation. Without thinking, he blurted out, “Nonsense! You dropped the complaint because Lily slept with you, didn’t you?”
The man spat in disgust, his expression twisting with contempt. “Are you talking about your infamous Lily Evans? The one who’s been passed around like a prize in our circle? Oh, she tried to come on to me, all right–but not for you. She was after my money! As if I’d ever sink low enough to sleep with her.”
“Let me guess. Did she also feed you some lie about sleeping with Dr. Thomas to secure your career?”
He let out a bitter laugh. “What a joke! We all saw her trying to seduce Dr. Thomas, claiming she wanted a job at the hospital. But he reprimanded her, blacklisted her, and warned everyone in the industry not to hire her
“You’re the only idiot who still treats a shameless woman like her as if she’s something special.”
