Chapter 14
Diana was dressed beautifully today, but dark circles under her eyes revealed her exhaustion.
She looked around, finally spotting Stephen and his friends.
Months of longing made her voice tremble.
“Stephen! Did you finally come back to see me?”
“Is this woman stalking us?”
Benjamin frowned, motioning for everyone to head to the private room.
Diana followed closely, grabbing Stephen’s arm as she reached him.
“Stephen, why didn’t you tell me you were back? You look thinner after being abroad. Let me take care of you.”
Stephen gently removed her hand and spoke calmly.
“What does that have to do with you?”
Even with his cold tone, Diana continued to smile, undeterred.
Benjamin and the others couldn’t hold her back, so they let her into the room.
Diana felt ecstatic, thinking she’d been accepted.
“Stephen, I’ve been studying aerospace materials seriously for the past month. I want to work in the same field as you.”
“How long are you staying this time? Are you here for good?”
“I’m not involved with Wayne anymore. Please, talk to me.”
At that moment, Wayne walked in, excitedly taking Diana’s arm.
“Diana, I got an interview invitation!”
Since their breakup, Wayne had tried to change himself, even applying to Stephen’s company, Stratos Corp.
He tried to mold himself into someone like Stephen, thinking it would win her back.
“What are you doing here? I told you we’re done!”
“Get out!”
Diana turned her head, her face darkening.
She’d worked so hard to get close to Stephen again, and she couldn’t let Wayne ruin it.
But Stephen paid them no attention, barely glancing in their direction.
He didn’t plan to get involved; love or hate had nothing to do with him now.
Benjamin was about to make them leave, but Stephen waved him off.
“Forget it. Let them sit and eat with us.”
After everything, Stephen’s perspective had changed. Making a scene over this would seem petty.
So, Diana and Wayne sat down.
Diana made sure to sit close to Stephen, constantly chatting with him and offering him food from the table.
Meanwhile, Wayne sat in silence, ignored by everyone.
The scene was eerily similar to how things had been at their farewell party, with their roles now reversed.
After the dinner ended, Stephen and his friends stood to leave, and Diana followed.
Wayne tried to pull her aside to talk, but she shook him off harshly.
“Get lost!”
He could only stand there, watching them leave, filled with frustration.
Why?!
He had worked so hard, and now Stephen was back to take everything from him.
After returning home, he sent Diana numerous messages.
To his surprise, her responses were friendly, completely different from her attitude earlier that day.
She even asked him for information about Stratos, saying she was preparing for her interview tomorrow.
Hope reignited in Wayne’s heart.
Chapter 14
He thought maybe she wanted to work with him.
After all, she’d changed her major for him; surely, she wouldn’t give up so easily.
Wayne sent her all the information she asked for, feeling hopeful once more.
The next morning, Diana indeed showed up outside the company, calm and composed.
They entered the meeting room together to await the interviewer.
Wayne, trying to be helpful, organized her documents and shared tips.
As he envisioned their future, Stephen entered, dressed in a gray suit, and addressed them. “Hello, I’m Stephen, Vice President of Stratos Corp. I’ll be your interviewer today.”
