Chapter 7
Avering the doorbell and stood outside nervously.
The housekeeper, Whitney Brook, opened the door, shocked to see Avery in such a messy state.
“Miss
Whitney didn’t know what had happened to Avery. But she still welcomed Avery in and brought her a new pair of slippers. She even thoughtfully brought
out a towel to put over Avery.
“Mr. Langston is in a video conference right now. He told me that you’d be coming. You can wait for him in the living room,” said Whitney gently.
“I’ll go make something that ‘ll warm you up?
Avery glanced at the fomiture cautiously, not daring to sit down. She was afraid of dirtying Gideon’s couch.
It was obvious that Gideon was a cultured and clean man. He was probably a gentleman of the highest degree.
After waiting about three minutes, Gideon came out of the study.
He didn’t keep Avery waiting too long.
He was wearing loungewear and had likely just taken a shower. His hair was damp and tousled
Gideon was about the same age as Marcus, but his features were more striking–the kind that would stand out even in the entertainment industry.
Avery suddenly felt inferior and started to back out
Why would someone so outstanding choose to marry her?
“H–Hello, Mr. Langston,” Avery greeted him first.
Gideon looked at Avery, soaked and in a sorry state, and froze for a moment. “Did you go save the world or something? Why do you look like such a mess?
Avery was stunned for a moment, lowering her head in panic.
Gidron didn’t sound very gentlemanly at all.
“Whitney, take her to the bathroom for a shower and get her some clean clothes.”
Gideon frowned and looked Avery up and down. “other people might think we took in a homeless person.”
His sarcasm was full of disdain, yet he turned and took cold medicine from the first aid it before mixing it with water and handing it to her.
Avery was a little overwhelmed. She had experienced too little kindness in her life. “T–Thank you.”
“Drink the medicine and go take a hot shower. We’ll talk after that,” said Gideon, holding a contract labeled prenuptial agreement
Avery nodded and downed the medicine in one gulp.
Then, she followed after Whitey in a hurry.
Gideon watched Avery, briefly stunned. He raised his hand to stop her, but it was too late. How could Avery just gulp it down like that? Was the water not hot? Or
was the medicine not bitter?
Avery was kind of interesting.
After coming out of the bathroom, Avery was surprised to find clean, dry, and comfortable clothes, already laid out on the bed in the guest room. She’d been given a losse, simple T–shirt and a pair of shorts
Whitney lucked on the door and walked inside, smiling at Avery. “Miss, these cloches belong to Mr. Langston’s niece. She stayed here for a few days a while back The clothes are new and have already been washed. You can use them.”
Avery quickly waved her hands. “No, I’m afraid I’ll dietythem.”
“It’s fine. She has plenty of clothes. This set is yours now Whitney smiled, placing down the tea she made for Avery and left
Avery put on the clothes and looked down at herself. Her legs were long and pale, but the shorts exposed all the bruises on them. And them were still marks from the patches used after the car accident. It was a miserable sight to behold.
After hesitating for a long while, Avery finally dried her hair and walked out.
Gideon had been waiting for her in the living room the whole time, and he seemed to be on a call with someone.
Avery hid behind the open door, afraid to interrupt him.
Noticing her, Gideon ended the call and picked up the prenuptial agreement. “Want to talk?”
Avery nodded and walked up in him, “Mr. Langston, can you go over your conditions?”
Gideon placed the agreement on the table. “Marry me. The marriage will last three to five years. You can’t metation divorce until my grandfather passes away. There’s no need to fulfil any marital duties. The marriage will be a secte
“Play the role of a good granddaughter–in–law. This is my secondary card–you can spend freely during the marriage. After the divorce, this house will be yo The rest of the conditions written in the contract
Avery looked at Gideon in shock. It didn’t seem as if he was discussing marriage–It felt more like a business deal, a job after
The teams were shockingly generous, though
How had an offer this good suddenly fallen into her lap?
The would burve a husband in name, acard to spend freely with, and a house after divorce,
“About studying abroad.…” Avery wanted to ask about furthering her studies abroad
She admitted that the conditions were generous, but compared to enriching herself, those things didn’t hold much appeal for Avery…
Money would eventually nos out, but her own abilities were the foundation she needed to stand firm in society and avoid being bullied after leaving Marcus
Gideon loaked up at Avery thoughtfully,
when he listed the previous conditions, Avery hadn’t booked very excited. Instead, when she mentioned studying abroad, her eyes lit up.
*Lean fund your study abroad, but there are some things I need to make clear in advance, Gideon uttered, looking at Avery again.
“The reason I need a secret mantage is because I only need to appease my grandfather,‘
a contractual manlage. A marriage between familles of equal
Avery more or less understood why Gidron would choose an orphan like her with no background for a con standing would make a future divorce troublesome.
Besides, he wasn’t marrying for love. Rather, he was marrying for the sake of fulfilling his responsibility to his grandfather.
To someone who had no parents like Avery, she was the easiest to metrol and the least troublesome to deal with.
Gideon believed he was offering extremely generous conditions, so he wasn’t worried that Avery would cause trouble in the future.
“I’m choosing you because, first, that day at the club, your patience and attentiveness to Marcus fit the type of grandlaughter–in–law my grandfather would like. Second, because you retused me several times, I believe you’re not a greedy person,
“But if you want to study abroad, 1 hope you can postpone it until after my grandfather passes away and we get divorced.”
Gideon looked at Avery and spread his hands apologetically.
He was naming his price; what he wanted from Avery was emotional value for his grandfather.
So, studying abroad–which meant long periods apart–couldn’t happen during the marriage.
A flash of disappointment crossed Avery’s eyes..
Senior year of university was the best time to send out study abroad applications–and also the best age. If she gave it up now, all the opportunities and platforms might change in three to five years. She didn’t want to miss this chance to rise
