The police officers around had been quietly listening to every word of our conversation. Finally, one of them asked a question.
“There are still some things I don‘ t quite understand.”
“You mentioned that your daughter deliberately cooperated with them to frame you, but why would she do such a thing?”
Hearing this, I could not stop myself from letting out a long sigh before I began to explain.
“At first, I was completely unable to understand it myself.”
“But later, I finally figured it out.”
“It’s because Lila isn’t actually my
daughter. She’s the biological daughter of Andrew and Ruby.”
As I spoke, I reached into my bag and took out the documents I had asked my

secretary to gather beforehand and showed it to everyone.
The documents included a paternity test report that confirmed the relationship between Andrew Prescott, Ruby Delaney and Lila Prescott as a family of three. Along with that were intimate photos and inappropriate chat records of Andrew and Ruby.

The officer was even more confused, so he asked another question.
“If Lila is their biological daughter, then why on earth would they kill their own child?”
“Doesn’t that contradict everything?”
I shook my head and spoke with a serious.

“In the end, the child they killed was their own daughter.”
Hearing this, Ruby and Andrew’s
expressions changed completely.
Without saying a word, they rushed to the body on the ground and carefully examined it.
“Lila? It’s really Lila!”
Once she was certain the body belonged to Lila, Ruby broke down entirely. “Why, why is it my Lila?”
This time, Ruby finally poured out her most genuine emotions.

Her cries were hoarse and filled with pain.
Andrew was not much better. He lost all of his strength, looking as pale as paper as he collapsed onto the ground.
I stood there watching them with a cold expression. Then, in a calm voice, I spoke, “Ruby Delaney, you‘ ve been targeting me since high school, haven‘ t you?”
“You came from a poor background and you wanted to climb the social ladder by using me to get ahead.”
“So you tried to get on my good side at every opportunity. You even went so far as to drug me before the college entrance exams to make me sick in the exam room. That gave you the chance to play the hero, gain my trust and then repeat the exams with me. After that, you made sure we were inseparable.”
“You even asked your childhood sweetheart andrew Prescott, to get close to me, too.”

“I get it. You wanted your daughter to live a life of luxury, to have everything that comes with being part of a wealthy family with fine clothes and healthy food.”
“But you should never have thought about harming my daughter or me.”
“And what’s worse? You didn’t even
recognize your own daughter. You were so consumed by your hatred that

“Ruby, this is on you. You killed your own daughter with your own hands.”
Although my biological daughter and Lila both resemble Andrew in appearance, they are still distinctly different in subtle ways.

In my previous life, I failed to recognize the difference between them.

I took my daughter in my arms as we began a new chapter of our lives together.
To make up for all the years of maternal love that she had missed, I made the decision to give up any thoughts of remarrying.
In this new life, I wanted nothing more. than to pour all my love and energy into her.
I wanted to be just with her.
Most of all, I wanted her to know that this world was still a beautiful place and that life was worth living.
