When Harry said this, I turned to look at him.
He quickly expressed his remorse when he saw me turn around.
“I am sorry for the marriage of seven years and for our child. I have now suffered the consequences. Turns out Emily never loved me. She just wanted to use me to get what she wanted. I was too foolish and hurt the one who loved me the most.”
After he finished speaking, a tear fell from the corner of his eye.
Having been with him for seven years, I naturally understood his habits.
Seeing him like this, I knew he truly regretted what he did.
Yet, his current reflection was what I had once longed for.
But now it was too late. It was all useless.
He weakly pushed himself up from the ground and then took out a credit card from his pocket, handing it to me.
“I was severely beaten in Heliaston, and after so many years of socializing, my health has deteriorated. So I want to do something within my ability in my final days. I know money cannot make up for you, but this is the only thing I can do.”
I looked up at the credit card Harry offered.
Over the years, I had accompanied him from obscurity to where he was now, starting from scratch.
He indeed had some business acumen, but he was somewhat too sentimental in love. There were several scars on his face, which seemed to indicate he had been badly beaten in Heliaston.
But I did not accept the credit card he handed over.
“I do not hate you, but I will not forgive you. I do not need the credit card. Keep it and do something more meaningful with it in your remaining time. Perhaps we once loved each other, but the timing wasn’t right. In this long seven–year marriage, I thought I could move you with love and tenderness, but I never expected it to end up like this.”
Harry looked at me with eyes full of guilt.
“I know I have wronged you for so many years, so this is the only compensation I can offer now. I hope you will be happier in the future.”
I did not reply to Harry but turned and left.
The shadow he cast on me was too much. I thought that I would spend my life trying to heal from it.
So many things had happened in just a few days, and I did not want to continue to be entangled with him.
The next morning when I woke up, my phone screen suddenly showed two incoming transactions.
Upon checking, I saw it was money transferred from Harry.
I put down my phone and quietly walked to the balcony.
The gentle breeze stirred my hair and seemed to have stirred something in my heart as well.
Everything had come to an end, and I hoped that the road ahead would be peaceful and
smooth.
