Chapter 4 KYLE
Kyle ran a hand through his hair, staring at Debby like she had just told him she was from another planet.
“You’re serious?” His voice was laced with disbelief.
Debby nodded.
“You’re really a virgin?” He looked her up and down like he was trying to find some sign that she was joking.
She let out a small sigh. “Yeah, Kyle. Is that a problem?”
Kyle scoffed, shaking his head. “I just—I mean, I didn’t expect it. Most girls aren’t. And at eighteen?” He let out a low whistle. “That’s rare.”
Debby crossed her arms. “So what? Are you saying I should have lost it by now?”
Kyle raised his hands in surrender. “Whoa, relax. I didn’t say that.” He paused, studying her closely. “I just… I didn’t think you’d be that type.”
“What type?”
Kyle let out a heavy sigh. “The type who wants to do it out of revenge.”
Debby flinched. His words stung deeper than she’d anticipated.
“You sure you wanna go through with this?” His voice was softer now, more serious.
She met his gaze. “Yeah.”
Kyle studied her face for a long moment. “To get even with Dave?”
She hesitated before nodding.
Kyle exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. “And you won’t regret it?”
Debby swallowed. Her heart was racing, but she wasn’t sure if it was from nerves or excitement. “Does it matter?”
Kyle let out a short laugh, but it lacked humor. He was torn, and for the first time in a long time, he felt indecisive. This wasn’t just some random hookup. This was different.
“Debby,” he said, and she blinked in surprise.
“You… know my name?”
Kyle smirked. “Of course, I know your name. Why do you look so surprised?”
“I don’t know,” she admitted. “I just thought—”
“You thought I wouldn’t?” He leaned against the bar, folding his arms. “Debby, I wouldn’t have shown up at your party if I didn’t know you.”
She frowned. “Wait, so you knew me before tonight?”
Kyle nodded. “I’ve noticed you before. A couple of times, actually.”
Debby’s brows shot up. “Really?”
He grinned. “Yeah. One of my friends had this huge crush on you. He was always talking about ‘quiet little Debby Carter.’”
Her cheeks flamed. “Oh my God.”
Kyle chuckled. “Yeah. He wouldn’t shut up about you. Said you were different from all the other girls. And then I saw you at a hockey game once or twice, watching me like you actually cared about the sport.”
Debby groaned, covering her face. “I do care about the sport!”
Kyle’s eyes widened in amusement. “Wait, hold up—you’re a hockey fan?”
She peeked at him through her fingers, still blushing. “Yeah.”
Kyle let out a low whistle. “Wow. Now that’s unexpected.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Why? Because I don’t seem like the type?”
“Exactly.”
Debby rolled her eyes but couldn’t fight the small smile tugging at her lips. “Who’s this friend that had a crush on me?”
Kyle smirked. “Can’t say.”
She pouted. “Come on, tell me.”
“Nope.”
She huffed. “Fine. Whatever.” Then, after a brief silence, she looked at him, her expression turning serious again. “So… are you gonna sleep with me or not?”
Kyle’s smirk faded. A heavy silence settled between them, thick with tension.
Finally, he moved closer, his hands reaching for her face. His touch was gentle, his thumbs brushing against her cheeks. His eyes held something different now—something intense, almost reverent.
“Don’t do this for revenge,” he murmured.
Debby swallowed hard, her breath hitching.
“If we do this,” Kyle continued, his voice low and deep, “you’re doing it for yourself. Not for Dave. Not for Rachel. Not to prove anything to anyone.”
Her lips parted, and she nodded slowly.
A slow smirk returned to Kyle’s lips. “Good. Because I plan to make sure you enjoy every second of it.”
And then he kissed her.
His lips were warm, firm yet soft, moving against hers with a patience she didn’t expect. He wasn’t rushing. He wasn’t greedy. He was savoring her.
Debby let herself melt into him, her fingers curling into his shirt as she kissed him back.
Kyle pulled away just long enough to whisper, “I’m gonna go slow with you, okay?”
She nodded again, her heart pounding.
He smirked. “Good.”
With ease, he slipped her dress down her shoulders, letting it pool at her feet. She felt the air hit her skin, and immediately, she wrapped her arms around herself, suddenly shy.
Kyle tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Don’t hide from me.”
She hesitated, then slowly let her arms fall to her sides.
Kyle’s eyes darkened as he took in her bare skin. “Damn.”
Debby flushed. “What?”
“You’re beautiful,” he murmured.
Her entire face went red. She quickly closed the gap between them, kissing him to hide her embarrassment.
Kyle chuckled against her lips but let her take control—just for a little while.
Then, he took over.
He guided her backward, their lips never parting, his hands firm yet teasing along her waist. As the backs of her knees met the edge of the mattress, a soft gasp escaped her lips. Kyle’s smirk deepened.
With a playful glint in his eyes, he gave a sudden tug, pulling her down with him.
A startled laugh bubbled from Debby as she landed against his chest, her palms pressing into the warmth of his skin.
Kyle grinned up at her, his fingers tracing slow, lazy circles against her back. “You ready?”
She gulped and met his eyes before she gave him a nod.
