Chapter 7 KYLE
Kyle leaned against his car, tapping his fingers against the hood as he waited. He had sent a message earlier, letting Debby know he was here to pick her up. But she never replied, so he figured he’ll surprise her instead.
A few moments later, the front door opened, and instead of Debby, one of the housemaids stepped out.
Kyle raised a brow.
“Miss Debby won’t be going to school today,” the maid said, her tone polite but distant. “She’s not feeling too well.”
Kyle frowned. “She’s sick?”
The maid hesitated before nodding. “That’s what she said.”
Kyle studied her for a moment. Something didn’t sit right. The Debby he had met last night—the confident, and somewhat reckless girl—didn’t strike him as the type to suddenly skip school.
“Tell her I stopped by,” he said, pushing off his car. Without waiting for a response, he slid into the driver’s seat and revved the engine. There’s a hockey game this morning, and as the team captain, he couldn’t miss it.

When Kyle pulled into the school parking lot, the first thing he noticed was Dave’s car parked right next to his parking slot.
Of course.
He barely had time to turn off the engine before Dave stepped out, his face a mask of barely contained rage.
Kyle smirked. This should be fun.
Dave stomped toward him, his fists clenched at his sides. “Where the hell did you bring Debby last night huh? What did you do?”
Kyle casually leaned against his car, arms crossed over his chest. “What do you think I did?”
Dave’s jaw tightened. “Answer me, Kyle.”
Kyle let the silence stretch between them before taking a slow step forward. He lowered his voice just enough that only Dave could hear.
“Use your imagination, man,” he murmured, amusement lacing his voice. “What do you think a bad boy like me would do to a sweet, innocent girl like Debby?”
Dave’s face drained of color.
Kyle chuckled. “It’s not like you cared about her when you were screwing Rachel behind her back.”
Dave’s fist shot out. Kyle saw it coming. Though Dave was taller, built like a classic forward with long limbs and a broad frame, Kyle had the kind of muscle that came from relentless training—solid, lean, and powerful. As the team captain, he was used to being the strongest on the ice, his body built for speed and precision.
With ease, he caught Dave’s wrist midair and shoved him back. Dave stumbled, barely catching himself before falling.
“Careful,” Kyle taunted, rolling his shoulders like he hadn’t even broken a sweat. “Wouldn’t want to embarrass yourself twice in one week.”
Dave glared at him, his breaths coming out in sharp, angry bursts. But he didn’t swing again. He knew better.
Kyle gave him a mock salute before turning on his heel and walking away. He had a game to win.
By the time he reached the field, most of the team was already suited up. The stands were packed with students, and the energy was electric.
Kyle made his way to the locker room, where his teammates were waiting.
“Finally,” Jason, the team’s star defenseman, said. “Thought you weren’t gonna show.”
Kyle grinned as he pulled off his shirt and grabbed his gear. “Miss a game? Never.”
As captain, it was his job to make sure everyone was ready. He ran through the plays, gave the usual pep talk, and within minutes, they were all geared up and stepping onto the field.
The moment he skated out, the crowd erupted into cheers.
Kyle smirked. Showtime.
The game started fast and aggressively. His team played hard, and Kyle led the charge. He dodged, weaved, and maneuvered through the opposing players, his focus razor-sharp.
Every time he scored, the crowd went wild. Girls screamed his name, and his teammates clapped him on the back.
But in the middle of all the noise, something caught his eye.
Someone.
Unlike the rest of the crowd, who were jumping and cheering, one person sat perfectly still, arms folded, not a single trace of excitement on her face.
Debby.
Their eyes locked.
Kyle’s smirk faded.
She stared at him for a long moment before abruptly standing and walking away.
Kyle barely registered the sound of the final whistle, signaling their victory. His teammates cheered, but he remained frozen, watching Debby’s retreating figure.
