One Night With the Hockey Captain Ch 8

Chapter 8 DEBBY

The next day, the moment Debby stepped out of the classroom with her friends, she felt the tension in the air. The hallway buzzed with conversations, but no one dared mention what had happened at her party the night before.

Even her best friends, Susan and Chloe, had been skirting around the topic, pretending like everything was normal.

Debby appreciated their silence. She wasn’t in the mood to relive the betrayal.

Just as they turned toward the cafeteria, she spotted Dave walking toward her, a dark bruise shadowing his eye. For a split second, she almost asked what happened, but then she stopped herself. She shouldn’t care—not after the betrayal.

Susan and Chloe exchanged nervous glances before suddenly finding a reason to disappear.

Great.

Debby sighed and changed direction, hoping to avoid him, but before she could take two steps, Dave grabbed her wrist and spun her around.

“Debby, we need to talk,” he said, his grip firm.

She yanked her hand back. “Let go of me, Dave.”

“Not until you tell me what the hell happened last night.” His eyes burned with frustration, but Debby could see the guilt underneath it.

She folded her arms, meeting his gaze with an icy stare. “Why don’t you guess?”

Dave’s jaw clenched. “Don’t play games with me, Debby.”

She smirked, tilting her head. “Why do you want to know?”

Dave’s face darkened. “Don’t tell me you had sex with him.”

Debby stepped closer, defiance shining in her eyes. “What if I did?”

His lips parted slightly, like he hadn’t expected her to confirm it.

“You—”

She cut him off. “Didn’t you have sex with his girlfriend? In my bathroom?”

Dave swallowed hard, the guilt plain on his face. He had no defense, no excuse.

“Debby, I—”

“Save it,” she snapped.

But instead of letting her go, he grabbed her wrist again, his grip tightening. Before she could protest, a voice cut through the air like a blade.

“Let her go.”

Dave’s fingers immediately loosened, his body stiffening. Debby turned her head just in time to see Kyle standing a few feet away, his hands stuffed in his pockets, his expression cold.

Dave hesitated, but when Kyle took a step forward, he let go of Debby as if her skin had burned him.

They locked eyes for a second before Dave scoffed, muttered something under his breath, and walked away.

Debby exhaled, ready to move on, but before she could take another step, Kyle shifted, blocking her path.

She raised an eyebrow at him. “Seriously?”

Kyle smirked. “Why are you avoiding me?”

“I’m not,” she shot back.

“You didn’t let me bring you to school,” he pointed out.

Debby folded her arms. “I didn’t know I’d come,” she said flatly.

Kyle tilted his head, studying her. “Liar.”

Debby stopped walking, her frustration boiling over. She turned to face him squarely.

“What else do you want from me, Kyle?”

His eyes flickered with something unreadable. “What we did was consensual, Debby. I asked if you wanted it, and you said yes. Several times.”

She crossed her arms. “And you said you’d be back to your old self after it. That one-night stand is what you do best. That’s what we did.”

Kyle snickered, shaking his head. “I don’t want that with you.”

Debby blinked. “What?”

Kyle took a slow step forward, his intense gaze locked onto hers.

“I don’t want just one night with you, Debby.” His voice was low, rough.

Her heartbeat picked up speed. “Then what do you want?”

Kyle reached out, gripping her waist and pulling her slightly closer. His breath brushed against her ear as he muttered,

“Another night with you.”
