Chapter 12
Shalley had no idea how she endured the eight–hour flight.
The moment she heard about Warren from Lisa, she was utterly confused. She hadn’t expected that Warren would go abroad to Melrand.
When she first discovered that he had gone missing, she immediately ordered a search of airport records but found no trace of him on any flight.
Despite her confusion, she was relieved that he was still alive–that was all that mattered.
But soon, intense anger surged from within her. She couldn’t understand why he’d left without saying a word. If he’d wanted to go abroad to develop his career, why hadn’t he ever mentioned anything about it to her?
Warren found an apartment for himself and moved out of David’s house. Though David and Dahlia were hospitable, he didn’t want to overstay his welcome.
When Thandie found out, she offered to help.
Since Warren had arrived with nothing much but only a few belongings, moving over was a simple task. Once he settled into the new apartment, he decided to head to the mall to get some decorations for his new place.
At a fabric store, a playful child accidentally bumped into him. This caused him to spill the coffee he’d been holding in his hands all over his pants. A large stain spread across his white trousers over a most awkward spot–it looked as if he had wet himself.
The store was crowded, so Warren tried not to draw attention to himself, as it would only lead to more awkwardness.
“Here, take this.”
An outstretched hand held up a jacket came into his sight.
Thandie smiled and said, “I’m feeling a bit warm. Could you hold my jacket for me?”
It took Warren a moment to realize that Thandie had probably noticed his predicament. She didn’t make an issue out of it and was subtly helping him cover it up.
Warren blushed and nodded gratefully. “Thanks, Thandie.”
He draped the jacket over his arm and let it hang down to hide the stained area.
Thandie smiled again and asked, “seo

anything you like?”
“Shall we check out the next store, then?” she inquired.
“Sure,” Warren agreed.
After they left the fabric store, Thandle turned to him and said, “Wait here for a moment.”
She dashed off toward a nearby convenience store and returned rather quickly. Then, she handed him a small bag.

Her cheeks were a little flushed as she said, “Your pants must be quite expensive, right? Coffee stains are tough to remove, so it’d be a shame to ruin them. I bought a stain remover pen you. You can go to the restroom and try to remove the stain.”
Holding the tiny pen in his hand, Warren felt a warm sense of gratitude. “Thank you for being so thoughtful.”
“You’re welcome. The restroom is just down the corridor on the left. Go on. I’ll wait for you here,” Thandie urged.
Thandie gave off a different kind of air compared to Shailey.
Shailey always wore delicately crafted perfumes, while Thandie’s jacket had a clean, minty scent that carried a hint of the sunlight.
When Warren came back from the restroom, he saw Thandie standing where he had left her. Beside her was a girl no more than two or three years old.
Thandie crouched down to play with the girl, who giggled and waved her hands excitedly. From the child’s gestures, it was obvious that she enjoyed Thandie’s company.
“Thandie,” Warren called out.
Thandie looked up as he approached. She explained smilingly, “The kid’s mom went to the restroom and asked me to watch her for a bit.”
Warren was surprised. “Do you know her mom?”
“No.”
“Then how could she trust you so easily?”
When Warren brought this up, Thandie seemed somewhat troubled. “I don’t know. It happens all the time. Whenever I go out, people always ask me for directions or to help them with something.”
Warren, on the other hand, could understand why. Thandie was gentle and kind. On top that, she was also considerate and paid attention to small details.

In fact, she and Shailey were polar opposites.
, there’s something I
want to tell you,” Thandie began.
“Go ahead.”
“I like you.”
Warren raised his head abruptly to stare at her. He could see that Thandie was embarrassed.
Still, she mustered her courage and confessed her feelings. “Back when we were in college, I already had a crush on you. But after that love letter fiasco and being abruptly sent abroad, I never got the chance to tell you. When David said you’d finally agreed to come overseas, I was so happy.”
Warren wasn’t entirely surprised.
From the moment he arrived in Melrand, Thandie’s hospitality and actions had gone far beyond what a mere acquaintance would do. He wasn’t that naïve–he had picked up on her feelings early on.
To be fair, he didn’t dislike her and thought she was a wonderful person. It was just that he hadn’t expected her to confess so soon.
“Don’t you think you’re going a little fast? It hasn’t been long since we’ve started spending time together,” Warren said.
Thandie replied, “Life is too short. We missed each other for seven years because I wasn’t brave enough to tell you my feelings. This time, I don’t want to secretly admire you from afar. I know you may reject me, but I’d rather tell you than regret staying silent and missing my chance again.”
Her words stirred something in Warren.
Thandie was right. He had loved Shailey for many years, and he kept waiting for her to confess
first.
But things weren’t really that complicated, right? He could’ve just told her how he felt. Even if she rejected him, their relationship wouldn’t be worse than it was now.
“You don’t have to answer me right away. Take your time and think about it first,” Thandie
added.
“I…” Warren started.
But before he could finish, someone crashed into his arms and a familiar scent filled his nose.
It was the smell of a Chanel perfume.
Warren knew it was Shailey even before taking a look. No one’s scent was as familiar to him as Shailey’s.
Nevertheless, something felt different. It had only been a few days since they had parted, yet she felt like a stranger to him all of a sudden.

“It really is you! I’m so glad you’re okay. Come on, let’s go home…”
Thandie spoke up hesitantly. “Um… Warren, who is this?”
Warren gently pushed Shailey away and maintained a polite distance between them. Calmly, he introduced, “Thandie, this is
my sister–in–law.”
