Chapter 14
Time flew.
Shailey did not appear again after their meeting.
These days, Warren rarely thought of her.
Thandy was nice to him, but it wasn’t in the way that he felt like she was eager to define their relationship.
She was quiet and gentle, and she took care of his daily life.
These calm and peaceful days made him feel settled.
One morning, he received a call from the chief editor of Melrand Magazine, Lisa.
“Mr. Gardner, I have a friend named Miranda Aneurin, who’s an anchor. She’s doing an
exclusive interview with a celebrity today, the same one I mentioned to you previously. Are you available to help with the photographs?” she asked.
“Sure. I’m available. When and where?”
“Could you head over to the site as soon as possible and talk to the people there? I’ll send you the address and Miranda’s number.”
Lisa was delighted that he could step in to help.
Knowing that this was an urgent job, Warren did not dally about. He called a cab and headed over to the studio immediately.
When he arrived, the other staff were all ready, just waiting for the cameraman to arrive to begin the work. Warren looked around the studio. Before he could find Miranda, he noticed someone else first.
Even in the noisy crowd, Shailey stood out.
Warren hadn’t expected her to be the interviewee.
Hadn’t she left yet?
Had she been in Melrand for the past few days?

That lasted until Shailey looked his way.
Their gazes met from a distance, but neither of them moved closer nor made any effort to greet the other.
Miranda noticed Shalley’s distraction and followed her gaze. When she saw Warren, she went up to him in surprise. “You must be Mr. Gardner I didn’t expect you to arrive so quickly. This is great!”
“Linda asked me to come,” Warren said, shifting his attention away from Shailey to Miranda.
This was Miranda’s first time meeting him, but she had already formed a good first. impression. “Linda’s brought you up a couple of times before. I knew you were young and good at your job. I didn’t expect you to be so good–looking as well…”
As she spoke, she led Warren toward Shailey. “Ms. Ralston, this is Mr. Garner,” she introduced. “He’s a renowned photographer. With him here, I’m sure our shooting will go smoothly.”
Shailey hummed coolly in acknowledgment.
“Mr. Gardner, this is Ms. R-”
“What’s the style and theme of today’s interview?” Warren interrupted. “We can go over your requirements before starting the shoot. This way, we can save everyone’s time and effort.”
“I’ll let Ms. Ralton decide that. I’m fine with anything,” Miranda said, immediately forgetting what she was about to say. “It wasn’t easy for us to get Ms. Ralton for this interview, so we’re willing to accommodate her as long as it keeps her happy.”
Shailey rarely stepped into the spotlight. They didn’t want to lose this golden opportunity.
Warren made no indication that he knew Shailey. Seeing that Miranda wanted him to talk to Shailey himself, he did so evenly. “Do tell, Ms. Ralston.”
His address was polite yet distant.
Shailey did not answer his question. “The studio is a little chaotic. It’s almost noon now. How about we head out and discuss this over lunch?”
She invited both Warren and Miranda, but her gaze stayed fixed on the former, bright and intense, as if afraid that he would disappear again.
Warren was not interested in having lunch with her. “I have other arrangements later, so I will not be able to stay for long. How about this? You two discuss it and send me a document with a summary of the requirements, then we’ll go from there.”
By coincidence, his phone rang just then.
He answered the call without hesitation in their presence.
It was Thandie. Her voice was as gentle as always. “Are you done with work? I’m just about to head to Maxwell’s house. Would you like to come with me?”
Warren smiled. “Yeah, I’m done. I was just leaving.”

Miranda watched as the car drove off and said to Shailey with envy, “They are both students of a friend of mine. I heard that they are dating and love each other very much. Their relationship is stable, so we’ll probably be hearing wedding bells soon…”
