Chapter 6

I timed it perfectly, switched on the light, and grabbed the water cup from the corner of the wall, hurling it straight ahead.
It hit Hazel square on the forehead. She let out a startled cry and fell to the ground in an awkward sprawl.
Seeing the blood on her fingers, she teared up and accused me pitifully.
“Charlotte, why did you throw something at me? I’m bleeding!”
Our coworkers, still groggy from sleep, blinked in confusion. Annoyed, they asked what had happened.
Feigning panic, I patted my chest like I had just seen a ghost.
“I thought it was a fox and got scared! I turned on the light to chase it away. How was I supposed to know it was Hazel?”
The others laughed at my overreaction. But when they got a good look at Hazel’s face, their amusement turned to shock, and they screamed as if they really had seen a ghost.
“Holy crap, Hazel, what happened to you? You look terrifying!”
“No wonder you always wear a mask. If anyone saw this at night, they’d freak out!”

“Didn’t you say the meds were working? If this keeps up, you’re gonna turn into a full–on beast!”
“Damn, I won’t be able to sleep tonight. This is straight–up nightmare fuel!”
The growing murmurs turned Hazel’s face an ugly shade of green. Unable to withstand the humiliation, she wrapped herself up tightly and bolted out of the room.
Her condition was incurable. Even specialists were helpless, and those so–called hair removal treatments barely made a
difference.
A coworker secretly snapped a photo and uploaded it online, stirring up quite a bit of buzz.
But it was nothing compared to the cyberbullying I endured in my past life.
While Hazel was away seeking treatment, I was desperately searching for a way to break free from this mess.
I wandered under the bridge, hoping to stumble upon some luck. But after circling around, I found that those
self–proclaimed sorcerers were all frauds. Not a single one had real skills.
Just as I was about to give up, a wandering priest passing by suddenly spoke, “You are entangled in an evil presence.”
“Master, is there a way to break the curse?”
Chapter 6
The priest pressed his palms together in devotion.
“The Lord only helps those destined to be saved.”
I didn’t quite understand what he meant until he pulled out a QR code for payment. Without hesitation, I transferred two thousand dollars.
The priest rolled his prayer string between his fingers,

muttering a chant. When he opened his eyes, they gleamed with an eerie light.
“You are deeply cursed. This won’t be easy to resolve.”
“So what should I do?”
He gazed into the distance and chanted once more. Then he pushed the QR code in front of me again.
I rolled my eyes and sent another transfer.
“Your roommate used a corpse–refining incense, an ancient sorcery extracted from thousands of wild foxes by a seasoned hunter skilled in venom magic.
“This stuff isn’t cheap. Your roommate must truly despise you. But luckily, you found me. This is fate.”
He broke off a bead from his prayer string and handed it to me.
“This kind of dark magic goes against nature. I will do

everything I can to break it. But if the caster fails, they will suffer severe backlash.”
I scoffed coldly.
“They brought this on themselves. It’s karma.”
“May the Lord bless you.”
Back at the dorm, I started planning how to deal with those two scumbags. But before I could make a move, Wyatt, relentless as ever, called and asked to meet.
At the restaurant, he smiled warmly and handed me a delicately wrapped gift box.
“Charlotte, I know I’ve been neglecting you because of work. That was my fault.
“It’s getting cold, so I had a friend bring back these luxury gloves from abroad. I hope you like them.”
I laughed mockingly in my head. We had been together for over a year, and he had always been stingy.
Not to mention, he often stole my ideas for work reasons.
I used to let it slide because we were dating. But now, I realized he was rotten to the core.
A scumbag like him would never splurge on luxury gloves.

I smiled, lips pressed together, and lifted the lid in front of him. Inside, the gloves were woven from fox fur. The exact same color
and texture as Hazel’s.
Just as I had suspected. This was yet another one of Hazel’s
schemes.
