Chapter 8

As public opinion continued to spread, Hazel’s popularity surged again, finally catching the attention of the headquarters.
Both Wyatt and Hazel were found guilty of violating company rules and were forcibly dismissed.
Some colleagues posted old photos of me and Hazel, fueling online outrage. While people condemned their moral
corruption, they also mocked Wyatt, calling him completely
blind for his choices.
With a tarnished reputation, Wyatt struggled to find a job at any major company. Desperate, he turned to me for help.
“Charlotte, please, I’m begging you.
“If this keeps going, I’ll starve to death. For the sake of what we once had, could you at least say something nice about me
online?”
I closed my eyes, and memories from my past life flooded back. The sight of my own lifeless body submerged in a bathtub, wrists
slit.
Back then, as my so–called boyfriend, he never stood up for me. Instead, he went on Hazel’s livestream, shedding fake tears as he accused me of having a wild nightlife, claiming he had no choice but to break up with me.

The hatred that had been carved into my bones surged up once more. I could never forget his hypocritical face.
“Charlotte, I swear, this time, I’ll treat you right.”
I couldn’t hold back anymore. I slapped him across the face!
With an icy glare, I spat out.
“Wyatt, don’t give me that bullshit. You make me sick.
“If you ever cared about me, how could you and Hazel conspire to destroy me?”
When I returned to my dorm, Hazel stood outside, wrapped up tightly in layers of clothing. No one dared to come within several yards of her.
The moment she spotted me, she ran over.
“Charlotte, you’re only wearing that scarf to cover up your fur. Don’t think I don’t know what you are now! This is karma. It’s all karma! Soon, I’ll have the same life you do!”
Her eyes widened with a deranged glint, pure madness lurking in her gaze.
I didn’t bother explaining. Silently, I unwrapped my scarf.
“It’s freezing out. Who wouldn’t wear a scarf? What’s with yours, though? Here, take mine.”

With that, I yanked off her mask. Underneath, her entire face was covered in thick fur.
Just then, Wyatt appeared, holding two lattes.
“Charlotte, wait up! I got you a latte, your favorite.”
“Ugh, what’s that smell? It’s disgusting.”
Following the awful stench, his eyes landed on Hazel. Wyatt turned to look and immediately fell to the ground in terror, spilling both cups of latte.
“Jesus Christ! What the hell is that?!”
Hazel gritted her teeth and glared at him.
“Wyatt, you swore you’d be with me forever! I did everything you asked. I traded my fate with Charlotte! And now you’re ditching me to crawl back to her?”
Wyatt sneered in disgust.
“Take a good look at yourself in a mirror. Do you really think any man would want you?”
That sentence shattered the last thread of Hazel’s sanity. Letting out an unhinged shriek, she pulled a fruit knife from her pocket.
“I ended up like this because of you! Do you think you can just walk away? Don’t even dream about it. If I go down, I’m taking

you with me!”
Her thick fur bristled in the wind, the overwhelming stench making everyone around gag.

Onlookers, including several coworkers, recorded the scene and uploaded it online, triggering an explosion of discussion.
As the internet reeled in shock, the police arrived. Later, Wyatt was taken away as a suspect.
Wyatt, in a struggle, grabbed the knife from Hazel and stabbed her.
As for me, my career flourished. I was recognized by upper management and took over Wyatt’s former position, stepping into a bright and fulfilling future.
