Harvey’s brows furrowed. He had asked Cyrus to handle the dress. According to the assistant, it was custom–made based on Elara’s measurements. As for when those measurements were taken, Harvey never bothered to ask.
To him, Elara was just a placeholder–a wife in name only
They hadn’t shared a bed in a long time. He had zero interes in her body. So, Harvey didn’t care if she was skinny or fat. It didn’t matter to him in the slightest.
“If the dress doesn’t fit, have it altered until it does,” Harvey said flatly.
He already felt like he was indulging her enough.
Elara picked up the document that had been placed on top of the dress box.
“So, Fisher Corp wants me in the tech department?”
Harvey replied, “I want to place you in the Chief Secretary’s Office as my personal secretary.”
Elara blinked, then let out a short laugh. “So, after seven years of being your unpaid nanny, you’re finally willing to pay me? And for what? To keep me by your side?”
Harvey’s expression darkened. “Then you’d be the highest–paid nanny in Capitol.”
Elara smirked. “I only have two words for you.”
Harvey arched a brow. “Do you agree, or do you want more money?”
“Screw you.”
Harvey stood frozen. His calm, emotionless exterior cracked for the first time in a long while.
“You only have a bachelor’s degree,” he reminded her coldly. “Winning a few competitions doesn’t mean you can lead an entire team. Competing is one thing. Running a project is another.”
The board of Fisher Corp had been considering making Elara the company’s Chief Technology Officer.
Harvey, who had been married to her for seven years, knew exactly what she was capable of.
A woman who had been a housewife since she was 20–how could she possibly be qualified to run Fisher Corp’s tech division?
Niamh spoke up, standing firmly on Harvey’s side. “Elara, how could you talk to Harvey like that?”
She smiled. “I’m just stating facts.”
Then, she grabbed the box and tossed it onto the table in front of Harvey. “Keep it. Don’t embarrass yourself by giving this to me.”
Daphne, who had been watching from the side, reached for the box without hesitation. She pulled out the dress, holding it up against herself with a giddy expression. “Hey, Abel, don’t you think I’d look better in this than Elara would?”
Abel, however, wasn’t paying attention to her at all. His focus was locked on Harvey. He responded half- heartedly, “Yeah, definitely.”
Η
Harvey cast a cold, disdainful glance at Elara and said, “You’re turning down the offer from Fisher Corp. Do you really think you’ll find a better job than the one I just handed you?”

Elara took a slow sip of her black truffle mushroom soup, her movements graceful. “I never planned on working at Fisher Corp.”
Harvey found that amusing. There was no way she hadn’t thought about joining Fisher Corp–after all, it was her best option.
“Elara, stop acting out. This is serious. You get one shot at this,” he warned.
Then, he held up an invitation. “Do you have any idea how many executives would kill to get into the Technology Creation and Sharing Summit?”
Abel’s eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw the invitation.
So, th
was Harvey’s plan–he wanted to take Elara to the event,
Abel wasted no time urging her. “Elara, just accept the offer! Don’t be ungrateful!”
But she remained unfazed, calmly eating her meal without even sparing Harvey a glance.
Harvey’s voice cut through the air. “I’ll give you ten seconds to think about it.”
Elara ignored him.
Harvey fell silent, starting the countdown in his head.
“Elara!” Abel slammed his hand on the table, his patience wearing thin.
Yet she remained unbothered, slowly savoring her meal.
“Seven, eight…” Harvey’s voice was icy as he continued counting. He was already being generous with this opportunity.
“Elara, what the hell are you doing? Are you really gonna throw this away?” Abel spat, practically foaming at the mouth.
“The mashed potatoes are really good,” Elara said casually, scooping some onto a smaller plate and passing it to Merida. She didn’t even look at Harvey or her father.
“Nine.”
Harvey’s gaze locked onto Elara’s face.
She was too damn proud. She had no idea what she was walking away from.
“Harvey, she’s obviously going with you to the Summit!” Abel blurted, making the decision for her.
He turned to Elara and said, “Just be smart about this, Elara Apologize to Harvey, and I’ll buy you ten designer. dresses. Hell, I’ll get you 20.”
“Ten.”
Harvey uttered the final number.
Only then did Elara lift her gaze. She said, “I won’t live in your shadow anymore! And I sure as hell won’t play second fiddle to you!”
She met his eyes and spoke clearly, her voice steady and unwavering. “Harvey, I didn’t come here tonight to have dinner with you,” she added.
