Chapter 138
The sheer weight of Leonard’s presence crushed Abel, making it nearly impossible to breathe.
In front of Leonard, he was too scared to say a single word.
“But…” Abel started, his voice weak. How the hell did it feel like Leonard was more of a father to Elara than he
was?
“You only need to answer me with one thing–do you understand?” Leonard’s voice was calm, almost indifferent, yet it carried the force of a command.
Abel’s survival instincts kicked in. His throat bobbed as he struggled to force out the words. “Y–yes… I understand.
Leonard’s gaze lingered on him for a second longer before he turned away. Oliver pushed his wheelchair forward until he reached the head of the table.
His eyes swept over the table, landing on a gift box carelessly tossed aside. A manila envelope with Fisher Corp’s logo had slipped out onto the table.
“What’s this?” Leonard demanded.
Harvey answered, “An employment offer for Elara.”
Leonard tilted his chin slightly, and Oliver immediately picked up the envelope and pulled out the contract.
Unfolding it, Oliver held it up for Leonard to read.
Leonard scanned the document. His eyes flicked up again, piercing straight through Harvey.
A cold chill ran down Harvey’s spine.
No one in the room dared to make a sound.
For Merida and Beau, it was the first time seeing Leonard in person, and from the moment he entered, his mere presence had left them completely stunned.
“Personal assistant contract?”
The words cut through the silence like a blade. The look Harvey received was enough to scrape against his skin like ice.
“Harvey.” Leonard’s voice was deceptively gentle.
Harvey immediately stood and walked over.
Seated in his wheelchair, Leonard held out the contract.
Harvey reached out and took it with both hands, his movements respectful.
“Elara invited me to dinner, and you handed her this kind of contract? Are you a damn child?”
Shadows flickered in Harvey’s eyes. Under Leonard’s scrutiny, he lost the ability to argue back.
Leonard was the ballast that kept the Fisher Crop steady and strong. Though he wasn’t the patriarch of the Fisher family, even Harvey’s father treated Leonard, who was 30 years younger than him, with the utmost respect.
In his presence, Harvey barely made a sound.
Chapter 138
“I just thought that, given Elara’s abilities, the role of a personal assistant would suit her better…”
“Since when do her abilities need your evaluation?” Leonard questioned. His tone was calm but Harvey felt the heat rising in his chest.
“Stop with these childish, pathetic games. Understood?”
Harvey pressed his lips into a thin line, his jaw clenched tight.
Seeing Harvey being openly reprimanded, Beau felt a growlg; sense of unease. He shrank back, hiding behind Niamh.
Even Niamh herself was breaking; into a cold sweat.
“…” Harvey started.
“You only need to say one word–‘understood.“”
Leonard spoke to him like he was teaching a toddler how to speak. Slowly. Deliberately.
Harvey swallowed his pride, suffocating under the pressure of the moment.
“…Understood.”
Leonard let his gaze sweep across the table before finally settling back on Harvey,
“These people–did you invite them?”
He didn’t need to ask twice. The sharpness in his gaze made it clear- he already knew the answer.
“You really think Elara could enjoy her meal with them here?”
His tone was mild, but every word was a direct hit.
“We were having dinner, and you brought in a bunch of irrelevant people. And this–this is how the leader of Fisher Corp conducts himself?” Leonard scoffed, then gave his final verdict.
