Chapter 142
Oliver had a laptop resting on his lap. The moment he deteed the tall, he activated the SkyNet system, running a trace on the vehicle following them.
Elara sighed in exasperation.
What the hell was wrong with Harvey?
Leonard’s dark eyes held a flicker of amusement, his expression unreadable.
“Your ex seems very… Interested in you.”
He said it so casually as if Harvey wasn’t even his nephew but just some random stranger.
“He’s insane.” Elara clenched her fists, forcing herself not to curse Harvey out in front of Leonard.
Leonard didn’t seem the least bit concerned. “Let him follow us if he wants.”
The sleek black luxury sedan continued its course, entering where Leonard lived, Oakread estate.
The moment the vehicle crossed into the three–mile perimeter surrounding the estate, satellite surveillance locked onto all movement.
Within that perimeter, security checkpoints were stationed at regular intervals.
Within a half–mile radius of the estate, there were guards posted every ten steps.
Elara peered out the window, watching as security vehicles patrolled the area.
Despite the heavy security presence, their car moved freely into the underground garage, unimpeded.
Before Leonard could say anything, Elara’s eyes lit up with barely contained excitement.
“Mr. Fisher, does this mean… You’re letting me join Dragonheart?”
She could already picture it–standing before the national fag inside Leonard’s estate, swearing her allegiance to never betray or leak any confidential information.
“No.”
Leonard shot down her hopes instantly, bringing her grand fantasy to a crashing halt.
Elara frowned. “But I won the Golden Award!”
“A mere competition win doesn’t qualify you as a ticket into Dragonheart.”
Her shoulders slumped like a deflated balloon
She blew a stray strand of hair from her face, pouting in frustration.
In the dimly lit car, Leonard studied her with quiet amusement.
Even he wasn’t aware of how indulgent his gaze had become when it came to her.
“…You can come over often to read some materials.”
Elara perked up the moment he said those words.
At that moment, she wanted nothing more than to cling to Leonard like a lifeline.
Chapter 142
The Oaltread estate was basically a treasure trove of knowledge for her.
The car door opened, and she stepped out eagerly with Merkia.
Then she turned back, watching as Oliver helped him out of the car and into his wheelchair.
Her gaze unconsciously softened, sadness flickering in her eyes as she looked at his unmoving legs. As Leonard rolled past her, his voice was as cool as ever.
“Spare me your pity.”
Elara didn’t see anything wrong with her reaction.
She had seen Leonard at his peak–the brilliant, untouchable genius who stood above everyone else.
of sorrow? And now, seeing him bound to a wheelchair, how could she not feel a pang “You don’t have to acknowledge my sympathy, but I can’t control how I feel.” She walked beside him, unaware of the way his expression darkened slightly.
“In my memories, you’ve never changed,” she said softly. “I could say every good thing about you, but even then, it wouldn’t be enough.”
Merida let out a wide–eyed gasp. “Wow!”
Her admiration for Leonard skyrocketed.
Leonard scoffed. “Enough with the flattery.”
Oliver, a former special forces soldier, stifled a laugh.
Leonard might have acted indifferent, but if he truly didn’t care, he wouldn’t have reacted at all.
The fact that he was rejecting her words meant he had definitely heard them. Judging by the slight pink tinge on his ears, he wasn’t as unaffected as he wanted to seem.
Elara followed him into the elevator.
As soon as the doors slid open, a group of uniformed personnel stood neatly in a row, clearly awaiting their arrival.
“Hey!”
Among them was someone who usually avoided crowds at all costs.
Xavier, who had been standing awkwardly with the rest, immediately brightened the moment he saw Elara.
His eyes lit up, and without warning, he broke into an excited sprint, rushing straight toward her.
