Chapter 146
“Merida ”
Leonard’s calm voice carried through the living room.
Merida walked over as he looked at her and asked, “Do you ke Mr. Theodore?”
He had overheard her conversation with Elara just moment ago.
“I do!” Merida answered without hesitation. “Mr. Theodore is really nice! Whenever Mommy goes for lessons at his house, I take naps there, and I always hear angels whispering that Mr. Theodore is the best person ever!”
Leonard immediately saw through Theodore’s little trick.
Theodore was like a cunning little fox, daring to snatch away what belonged to Leonard.
He leaned down and said to Merida, “Next time, pretend to be asleep and see if the angel still whispers in your ear. The moment you hear them speak, open your eyes–then you’ll finally get to see them.”
That was a great idea. Merida nodded at Leonard with firm determination.
She couldn’t wait to find out what the mysterious voice whispering in her ear really looked like.
Just then, Elara emerged from her room, fanning her face with her hand.
She had finally picked two dresses. They would both be tailored to her exact measurements.
She had also picked out a small gown for Merida as a reward for her recent act of bravery at school.
The following week, Elara sat in the backseat of the car, dressed in one of the stunning gowns, scrolling through her phone when she received a message from Theodore. It was a link.
When she tapped on it, she was instantly greeted by a hot topic trending on Capitol University’s online forum.
Apparently, the president of the university’s hip–hop club, Wayne, had attempted an unusual stunt.
In his dorm room, with the door locked, he had attempted to perform a handstand while using the restroom.
Unfortunately, despite the locked door, the smell had managed to seep into the hallway.
Concerned students, believing that a fellow classmate had illegally brought chemical substances into the dorm, had reported the issue to the resident advisor,
Soon enough, the dorm supervisor had kicked down the door–only to be met with an entire group of very unfortunate math majors, all covered in excrement, and Wayne himself, pantsless, legs flailing in the air.
The dorm supervisor, unable to handle the sight, had promptly thrown up their lunch on the spot.
Theodore’s message popped up again. He said, “I have video footage, but I’ll spare you the horror.”
Elara winced. “Just reading about it makes me want to disinfect my phone.”
Then, more photos came through. Elara’s heart skipped a beat.
No way he wouldn’t dare send her more risqué pictures, would he?
Bracing herself, she took a deep breath and checked.

They weren’t those kinds of pletures.
She let out a relieved sigh–though, if she was being hones, a tiny part of her felt oddly disappointed
Instead, the photos were of Wayne on campus,

He was wearing a baseball jacket. Emblazoned across the back in large, bold letters was, “I ranked 112 places below Elara in the ALI Math Competition.”
The other students walking beside him were wearing matching jackets, each with their own ranking printed on the back.
Only then did Elara recall–she had made a bet with these spudents.
“Did they agree to this on their own?” she asked.
“Of course not,” Theodore replied. “If they didn’t follow through with their bet, I was prepared to make sure they lost everything–down to their underwear.”
Elara chuckled, her taughter soft under the glow of the streetlights,
“I’m almost at the Intercontinental Hotel,” she typed back
See you soon.”
Theodore’s message came with a moon emoji.
Elara’s long lashes fluttered slightly. She inhaled deeply, pushing aside the strange warmth creeping into her chest.
She turned to the window, letting her gaze settle on the neon–lit cityscape.
The surrounding streets were under traffic control since the Technology Creation and Sharing Summit’s welcome banquet was being held at the hotel.
The car carrying Elara slowed as it approached the entrance
A traffic officer stepped forward to check her invitation. After verifying it, he quickly waved her through.
Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Intercontinental Hotel, full–spec Maybach rolled to a stop beside the red carpet.
The car door opened, and Harvey stepped out.
Instantly, camera flashes erupted like a thousand fireworks exploding at once.
He was simply too striking
Tall and impeccably built, his sharp features were reminiscent of a Renaissance sculpture–perfectly carved, every angle profound and precise.
The media section was positioned along both sides of the red carpet, separated by security barriers.
The journalists weren’t allowed too close to the arriving guests, but that didn’t stop them from whispering amongst themselves.
After stepping out, Harvey didn’t immediately enter the hotel. He paused, waiting
Moments later, the next person emerged from the Maybach
It was none other than Ethel. Despite being 55 years old, she had aged gracefully. Her hair was dyed and styled into

a neat bun at the back of her head.
Her complexion was flawless–her skin still youthful, as if untouched by time.
Standing beside Harvey, she gave a polite wave to the media
A few reporters murmured amongst themselves.
“Didn’t Mrs. Fisher just get into trouble recently? And now she’s showing up in public like nothing happened?”
“You mean the Summit Academy’s Dean bribery scandal? From what I heard, she was only caught using her position on the board to push out people she didn’t like. She’s already been removed from the board, and the legal investigation stopped there.”
Another journalist shook his head. “The Fisher family is truly untouchable. Even after all that mess in the education system, she walks away clean.”
Just then, a silver Mercedes pulled up behind the Maybach
