Chapter 149
“You guys at Starbound build cars! Why the hell are you trying to steal Ms. Jones from me? Move aside, I’m going first!”
Several men crowded the doorway, bickering as they tried to shove past each other. None of them were willing to step back
Inside the banquet hall, a waiter approached Elara, holding a tray of champagne flutes,
She casually picked up a glass.
“Ms. Jones.”
A familiar voice rang out.
Tuming, she saw the mother of one of Merida’s classmates walking toward her with a bright, eager smile.
Elara recognized her immediately.
el Merida.
This was the same woman who had mocked her mercilessly when James tried to expel
The same woman had also written a public apology on Instagram, only to delete it once the scandal blew over.
And she was the same woman whose husband had formally issued an apology to Elara through his company’s
official account.
Now, spotting Elara at the event, she and her husband were both stunned. But instead of keeping their distance, they rushed forward to chat her up.
“Ms. Langley, you look absolutely stunning tonight! Oh my, is that Valeni couture? But I don’t remember seeing this design in their Spring, runway collection.”
Elara took a sip of champagne and replied offhandedly, “Isisa said this piece isn’t available to the public.”
The woman gasped. “Wait–you personally met Isisa, the head designer of Valeni? Oh my god, I’m so jealous! Mr. Fisher really treats you well! Even after your divorce, he still lets you enjoy VIP privileges with the Fisher family?”
Elara opened her mouth to correct her to tell her that Harvey had absolutely nothing to do with the dress.
But before she could speak, she felt it. A sharp, piercing gaze locked onto her. She turned her head slightly.
From across the room, Ethel was storming toward her, her expression thunderous. Her face was twisted in a scowl, eyes blazing with fury as if she were ready to cut Elara down on the spot.
“How the hell did you get in here? Who let you in? Do you even have an invitation?
Ethel fired off three sharp questions in rapid succession.
Elara remained completely unfazed. She took another leisurely sip of her champagne, savoring the light floral
sweetness.
Ethel’s brow twitched violently.
The way Elara stood there–composed, elegant, and unbothered–it infuriated her. It felt like a deliberate insult like Elara was showing off.
Elara finally set her glass down, her fingers tapping lightly against the rim, creating a crisp, melodic sound.

“You must have too much time on your hands if you’re so worried about someone else’s business.”
Ethel’s face darkened further.
Elara sighed. Honestly, the hotel should’ve set up a sage smudging station at the entrance.
She could’ve walked through it and burned away all this bad energy. Everywhere she turned, she kept running into people she really didn’t want to sec.
“Elara.” Ethel sneered. “Didn’t you say you were going to file a complaint about me? That you were going to ruin my reputation? Well, guess what? The Women’s Advocacy board told me they never received a single complaint against me!”
There was pure satisfaction in her tone.
At first, she had worried that Elara might have actually gathered real evidence against her. But days had passed, and no one had come knocking. She was still being treated with the same level of respect.
No official investigation. No consequences.
That was when she knew–Elara had just been bluffing.
As if a woman who spent seven years being a housewife could ever get her hands on anything truly damaging
How pathetic.
Elara, however, only smiled.
“The national complaints office receives hundreds of reports a day. It takes time to process everything. Mrs. Fisher, just be patient. I’m sure you’ll be hearing from them soon.”
Ethel laughed. It was a cold, condescending laugh.
Right then, a loud voice broke through the tension.
“There she is!”
Η
Niamh stormed over, dragging someone along with her. “She’s the one! Elara!”
