Chapter 154
“Harvey, have you still not repaired your relationship with Ms. Jones?”
The shareholders of Fisher Corp had seen how Ethel had targeted Elara and how Elara had treated Harvey. Some of the shareholders had already gone to talk some sense into hel.
“You saw Lucas and Mr. Somner personally coming down to welcome Elara. Why did you treat her that way just now?”
The Fisher Corp shareholders were very baffled by Ethel’s actions. One of them had even wished he could take Ethel’s place and be Elara’s mother in law himself.
“She was looking down on me!” Ethel thought of Elara’s gaze earlier and fumed. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with her attitude. On the contrary, she felt he had been the one treated unfairly.
“I’m her mother–in–law!”
“You are her former mother–in–law,” a shareholder corrected her.
“Elara was my daughter–in–law for seven years. Isn’t there a saying that mentees have to respect their mentors for life? I was her mother–in–law for seven years; she should still respect me! It was she who made a scene and insisted on divorcing Harvey.”
She then spat, “She’s a country bumpkin whom I taught for seven years, yet she still hasn’t learned any manners.
The shareholders all looked displeased. “Elara is now a guest of honor at the summit. Do you really want to drag Mr. Fisher down and get him thrown out as well?”
However, Ethel felt otherwise. “Lucas was probably just saying that…”
Seeing that Ethel was impossible to reason with, the shareholders turned their attention to Niamh, who was standing nearby.
One shareholder let out a cold laugh and sternly warned her “Ms. Niamh, can you stop causing trouble for Harvey?
Another shareholder asked disdainfully, “Ms. Niamh, you aren’t even part of the business world. What are you doing here? Who brought you inside?”
Niamh replied boldly, “Harvey brought me inside!”
The shareholders launched another attack on Harvey.
“Why haven’t you given Elara the CTO offer yet? Did you even use last week’s dinner to reconnect with her?”
“I think Harvey didn’t placate her at all last week. Otherwise, Ms. Jones wouldn’t treat him this way today!”
The shareholders spoke one after another.
Harvey’s face darkened. His expression was extremely stormy.
“I don’t think Elara’s capable of handling the CTO position, he replied.
He still stood by his judgment. His decision was based on the long–term interests of the company.
Niamh, who had been listening nearby, asked in confusion What is a CTO?”
Ethel shot her a look before explaining icily, “CTO stands for Chief Technology Officer. They oversee and lead all technical projects in the company.”

Niamh had no business knowledge whatsoever. Although she had majored in business administration at university, she had barely attended any classes. She had spent a lot of money to get a bachelor’s degree in a private university.
“Is the CTO’s position higher or Harvey’s?”
Ethel pouted. She thought this question was too stupid. However, since it was an opportunity to praise her son, she wouldn’t let it go to waste.
“Of course, Harvey’s position and power are greater. He is the ultimate decision–maker of Fisher Corp! A CTO is just someone who manages the technical side.”
Hearing this, Niamh smirked. “But Elara only has a bachelor’s degree. If I remember correctly, doesn’t Fisher Corp require at least a master’s degree for all positions except Janitorial staff?”
Ethel muttered under her breath, “Even the maids working for the Fisher family have at least a bachelor’s degree. Elara was only ever fit to be a servant in our household.”
However, Ethel and Niamh had no chance to interject at all while the shareholders launched their collective attack on Harvey.
A shareholder said harshly, “After a full evaluation by all the shareholders, we have concluded that Elara is the most suitable candidate for the CTO position! Do you have any idea how many companies and universities, both domestic and international, are trying to recruit her right now? She is your woman! Don’t you know that proximity is power?”
Harvey took a deep breath. All the guests had personally seen Elara entering the Golden Amethyst Gate upon Lucas ‘invitation. Even the media reporters, who were barred from entering the banquet hall, would soon know that Elara was among the 20 elite guests qualified to enter the Golden Amethyst Gate.
By the time Elara emerged from that door, the attention she would receive would far surpass that of any mathematics competition
In the end, Harvey conceded to the shareholders, “Fine. I will appoint her as CTO.”
The CTO was an important position within the company. Once Elara took office, he would personally guide her. The shareholders all breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing him agree.
“Harvey, grudges don’t start overnight between husband and wife. Besides, she’s still your ex–wife. Just mollify her!”
“Mr. Fisher, you need to step it up. The reason Ms. Jones still has reservations about you is because you haven’t properly won her over.”
Another shareholder clapped him on the shoulder, offering his advice. “If you can’t coax her, then you have to win her over by sleeping with her! 1 believe in your skill!”
Other shareholders crowded around, eagerly sharing their wisdom. “As long as you’re willing to put in some effort physically, there isn’t a single woman in this world you can’t handle!”
Harvey’s brows furrowed slightly. He had no interest in sleeping with Elara. He would never again allow himself to sink into the trap of love and desire.
He had been young and impulsive. He had thus indulged himself. After getting addicted to her, the process of quitting was excruciating and heart–wrenching.
He would never touch her again. What was the difference between that and poisoning himself?
