Harvey wanted to see shock and disbelief on Elara’s face. So what if she had been invited to a high–society. summit? Those industry tech leaders only wanted her for technical work.
He was willing to admit that with Elara’s ability to win a gold medal at the ALI Math Competition, she indeed had the skills to join a top national enterprise as a technical staff member.
At most, she could become a project team leader. But that was the limit for a 27–year–old woman with no work experience!
The fact that Fisher Corp generously offered her the position of CTO was purely because she had once been his
woman.
Harvey raised his hand, slicking back the damp strands of hair that clung to his forehead after being drenched in red wine. His sharp, chisele features became even more imposing with his slicked–back wolf–cut hairstyle, and the last drop of wine slid down his jaw.
His striking looks were so exceptional that even with red wine splashed all over him, he looked as if he had just walked off a battlefield, all bloodstained yet undefeated.
“This is the greatest gift I can give to you as my ex–wife! Report to Fisher Corp tomorrow!”
Harvey glanced at Theodore,
blow. His eyes held nothing but was still clutching his chest, pretending to be gravely injured from the earlier
and disdain.
Having bestowed his so–called favor upon Elara, he slipped one hand into his pocket, ready to turn and leave.
“Harvey, with all the water stored in your brain, why haven’t you used any to nourish the barren tree in your heart?”
Hearing Elara’s mocking words, Harvey turned back and coldly scoffed. “Keep acting arrogant with me, and you’ll regret it before you know it!”
Elara smiled. “Oh? Do you expect me to bow and thank you for your decree? You think just because you’re offering me the CTO position, I should be eternally grateful?
“Just so you know, Harvey Fisher, I have far better options than Fisher Corp’s CTO position!”
The moment Elara finished speaking, the business tycoons who had been waiting at the stairway entrance surged forward impatiently!
At first, the guests on the ground floor had been hesitating while observing from a distance. While they were eager to recruit Elara, they were also well aware of her complicated history with Harvey.
Even though the two were divorced, these business moguls feared any lingering entanglements between them. But now, Elara had publicly drawn a clear line, severing ties with Harvey once and for all. So, what were they waiting for?
In an instant, they rushed up the stairs by taking two or three steps at a time. They were each scrambling to be the first to reach Elara.
Harvey was no longer on their radar. In fact, they were so eager that they would have gladly shoved him aside.
“Ms. Jones, this is my business card!”
“Ms. Jones, if you don’t want to join Fisher Corp, consider us instead!”
One of the business executives was even a distant relative of Harvey. He noticed the unpleasant look on Harvey’s

face and chuckled.
“Harvey, I know it’s a bit unkind to poach talent right in front of you.”
“Uncle Angus, I…” Harvey was just about to fire back when the man cut him off.
“But you and Ms. Jones are already divorced! You know what they say, an ex–husband is as good as dead to the ex- wife!”
The veins on the back of Harvey’s hand bulged, and his temples were throbbing.
He watched as Elara was surrounded by the business tycoons, all eager to recruit her. They bombarded her with offers, asking if she was interested in joining their companies.
They were willing to provide compensation packages, equity options, or whatever she wanted. Harvey thought Elara was surely doing this on purpose to show him exactly what he had lost!
Harvey’s voice rose. “Elara Jones, tell me what you want! Whatever it is, I can give it to you!”
Elara turned her head to look at the man who still held himself above everyone else. Even the executives around her fell silent because Harvey had spoken.
“But, Harvey…” Elara asked him in a serious tone, “What right do you have to negotiate with me now?” With just one sentence, she sucked all the air from the room.
Back when they divorced, she had tried to fight for a house and some money for herself and Merida. But all she got in return was Harvey’s cold voice as he’d said, “Elara, what right do you have to negotiate with me?”
Now that Harvey had finally recognized her worth and was so graciously offering her the CTO position at Fisher Corp…
She returned the mockery and disdain he had once shown her, word for word, at this grand reception filled with all the other elites.
