As the Jeep pulled out of the garage, Harvey approached Leonard and greeted him respectfully, “Uncle Leonard” “You’re an absolute disgrace,” Leonard remarked, his blunt words instantly draining the color from Harvey’s face. Without sparing him a glance, Leonard continued, “If I hadn’t told you back then that I had taken in an exceptionally gifted student…..
“If I hadn’t tacitly allowed you to fund Elara’s education. Perhaps everything would have turned out differently.” Harvey’s gaze fell to the blanket draped over Leonard’s legs His lashes lowered, concealing the storm brewing in his eyes. “Uncle Leonard, what exactly are you trying to say?”
A scoff escaped him. “You never make the wrong decisions, Every word you speak is treated like gospel truth by my father and grandfather.
“What’s this right now? Are you telling me even you have regrets?”
For the first time, Thurvey felt Leonard wasn’t so untouchable after all. So, even he was capable of making inistakes.
Harvey lifted his chin, his sharp gaze locked onto the back of Leonard’s head. His eyes, like a wolf’s, carried a wild and rebellious edge.
“Uncle Leonard, are you feeling sorry for my ex–wife?”
The moment Harvey had first heard Elara’s name from Leonard’s lips back then, he had known that Elara was different from him.
Leonard’s voice rang out like a bell echoing through the mountains. “I once believed that by entrusting her to you, she would have everything a woman could ever want in this world.
“I overestimated you. You never deserved her.”
Harvey’s hands clenched into fists, only to loosen a moment later. He inhaled sharply before sneering. “If she’s so perfect, then why didn’t you marry her yourself? Why push her onto me?”
“Mommy, look at this!” Merida said as she handed Elara a stack of documents.
Elara took them and glanced through the pages–it was an announcement for Summit Academy’s annual outdoor parent–child event.
The school was organizing an outdoor activity for students and their parents, aiming to create mo onding opportunities and allow families to observe different parent–child dynamics
Merida spoke seriously, “It says both parents have to attend. If one can’t make it, they need to submit an official leave request.
Since the time Merida and Beau had started preschool, Elara had always accompanied them to these events. Harvey, of course, had always been too busy with work and had never participated in any of them.
Yet, even when Elara took both children on her own and won first place in various competitions, it never erased the disappointment of Harvey’s absence.
Elara smiled at Merida. “Mommy will go with you.”
Merida beamed. “Since I don’t have a dad anymore, I asked my teacher if I could bring someone else to take his

place. She agreed!”
Normally, the school wouldn’t allow other relatives to step in as a missing parent. They believed it would set a precedent that could lead to complications. But Elara and Harvey’s divorce had become widely known throughout the school.
When Merida told Bridget that she “no longer had a father her heart nearly shattered. She bent the rules and allowed an exception for the event out of sympathy.
Elara tilted her head. “So, Merida, who else do you want to take to the outing?”
Neither Theodore nor Finnegan spoke. Both of them held their breaths. If she could hear their thoughts right now, they would be shouting the same thing.
“Pick me! Pick me! Just pick me!”
