The securities commission decided to trust that the stock market analysis program Elara had submitted was indeed her own work. After verifying that the funds she had invested came from her divorce settlement, they lifted the freeze on her assets and transferred the money back into her account.
Seeing her bank balance skyrocket back into the millions, Elara’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. Just then, a call came in from August of Bright Peak Securities.
Elara frowned slightly but chose to answer. The moment she picked up, August’s voice filled her ear.
“Ms. Jones, I heard your funds have been unfrozen! Congratulations! I was wondering if you’d be interested in having me as your investment advisor again? 1 can offer you the lowest commission rates!”
Elara’s voice was calm as she asked, “Mr. Hanson, weren’t you fired from BrightPeak?”
There was a pause before August let out an awkward laugh Ms. Jones, your information is quite up to date.”
His dismissal from Bright Peak had been directly tied to the freezing of Elara’s 80 million dollars in assets. Somehow, the news had leaked, shaking the confidence of Bright Peak’s top clients.
During the period when Elara’s funds were frozen, Bright Peak lost a significant number of high–net–worth investors, and someone had to take the fall. That person had been August.
Still, he pressed on. “I’m with Easthaven Securities now, Ms. Jones. Rest assured.”
Elara cut him off. “Mr. Hanson, it seems you still don’t understand why you were fired. As a financial manager, you should never betray your clients.”
With that, she ended the call.
Hearing Elara’s words to August, Finnegan’s lips parted slightly. This August guy would soon be blacklisted by the entire Industry.
Then, Elara’s voice came again from behind him. “The money that just came in is more than enough to cover ten years of rent. As for the rest, I’ll draft a project plan and focus on investing in a few of your emerging tech ventures.”
Finnegan responded with a quiet, “Mm.”
His first significant earnings had come from Elara’s investments. Now, in most of the industries under his name, Elara held a 51% stake.
Currently, Merida was enrolled in the city’s most prestigious private preschool, but she would be starting elementary school in six months.
Elara had no plans to let Merida advance directly into Summit Academy’s elementary school, but whichever school she did attend would require a joint effort from both her and Merida.
To make things easier, Elara had already rented a place near Summit Academy for convenience in picking up and dropping off Merida.
The house came with a private housekeeper, an on–site five–star restaurant, and fully equipped amenities. The property manager had even mentioned they could provide one–on–one tutoring and after–school care for Merida if needed
A high–end residence like this had a market price of 30 million, but renting, it would only cost 50,000 per month. So, renting it was a much more reasonable choice for Elara. After all, once Merida started elementary school, Elara planned to move even closer to ensure she got enough sleep

Finnegan’s car pulled up at the gates of Mistvale Ranch, where school staff and teachers were already waiting to greet them. Elara took Merida by the hand and walked over to check in with the teachers.
One of the teachers asked about Finnegan’s relationship with Merida before noting down Elara and Finnegan’s names beside Merida’s on the list.
The homeroom teacher then handed Elara a task card. “As soon as Merida’s family arrives at Mistvale Ranch, the parent–child games officially begin! Here’s your task card!
Elara was about to kneel down and go over the task card with Merida when Finnegan suddenly lifted the little girl onto his shoulders.
With Merida perched on Finnegan’s arm, the three of them huddled together with their heads almost touching.
