Chapter 187
The teacher who had brought Xavier over turned to Elara and said, “Xavier has been enrolled at Summit Academy all along.
“Over the past few months, he’s made great progress in his psychological intervention therapy. When I asked if he wanted to join the outdoor activities, he agreed. I didn’t expect Xavier to be so attached to you, Ms. Jones.”
Merida also approached while greeting Xavier cheerfully. The moment she saw him, it was as if a switch had been Пipped. Her words flowed freely, and she animatedly described her life to him.
She told Xavier that she and Elara were participating in the annual parent–child event again. But this year was different. Her parents were divorced, and only her mom was accompanying her.
She also told him that she had invited her uncle to join because he was an amazing cook. But she was a little worried–what if Finnegan couldn’t understand the game rules?
Xavier took Merida’s hand without hesitation. He hoped he wasn’t too late. If he was here, then he would be her
brain.
The teacher watched them in surprise. Xavier had always been resistant to physical contact. Even his psychologist, who saw him daily, couldn’t touch him without him pulling away.
A smile softened the teacher’s face. “Ms. Jones, I’ll leave Xavier in your care. I hope he enjoys a wonderful afternoon outdoors.”
Meanwhile, on the other side of the event, Beau shook his head, looking confused. “I don’t know who his mom is.”
His gaze landed on Xavier and Merida, walking hand in hand, sticking close to Elara. They looked like a real family.
An uncomfortable sensation crawled over Beau, as if the spot that should have belonged to him had been taken by Xavier.
Lounging with one leg crossed over the other, Niamh popped a chip into her mouth and smirked. “His mom must be someone too embarrassing to acknowledge. That’s the only reason Prof. Fisher would keep her identity a secret.
Niamh turned to Beau and sneered, “Good thing he’s a mute. If he were a normal kid, he’d definitely threaten your place in the Fishers!”
Beau’s entire body stiffened. No one had ever told him that Xavier could be a threat to him.
“I’m Grandma’s treasure! The Fishers‘ heir! Xavier is just a mute!”
Since Xavier couldn’t speak, Beau never considered him worth playing with. Their relationship had always been distant. Yet, what irked him the most was how easily Merida played with Xavier.
A cold, satisfied smirk surfaced in Niamh’s eyes.
“Beau, you need to face reality. Elara doesn’t want you anymore. Have you ever thought about what will happen when your dad finds you a stepmother?
“When she and your dad have a new child, you won’t be your grandma’s precious grandson anymore the only Fisher family heir.”
Beau shook his head vehemently, refusing to believe it. “That won’t happen!”
won’t be
Niamh leaned in and continued, “Your mom grew up in the countryside. She didn’t even return to the Jones family until she was 18.

“But your dad? The moment he lifts a finger, plenty of high–status heiresses will be lining up to be your stepmother. And compared to them, your mother will always be a stain you can never erase.”
Beau’s lips trembled at this. His eyes immediately welled up with tears.
“Then what should I do?” His mind raced, and in a sudden burst of desperation, he blurted, “I’m going to tell Daddy that I don’t want him to find me a stepmother!”
“Wait!” Niamh immediately grabbed him by the arm.
She smirked and said, “I’m not like those pampered heiresses. If I become your mom, I’ll never have another child.
“You’ll be my only son, my brother, and my everything! Instead of telling your dad you don’t want a stepmother, you should-”
Before she could finish, Beau threw himself into her arms. Niamh! You have to be my new mommy!”
A slow, victorious grin stretched across Niamh’s lips.
She patted his back gently and whispered, “If I were your mother, I’d never let Xavier threaten your place in the
Fishers.”
