Chapter 191
Elara’s chest rose and fell violently with each breath. There was a sharp pain slicing through her nasal passages as if a blade were cutting her from the inside. The metallic taste of blood spread through her nose and throat as she steadied herself on a slightly wider patch of the dirt slope.
She pressed her lips together, staying silent to prevent Niamh from tracking her position and throwing more
stones.
She then carefully lowered Xavier to the ground. Her arms were numb and shaking from exhaustion, and they could barely hold on any longer.
Now that Xavier had a stable foothold on the steep incline, e reached out and pressed the emergency call button on his smartwatch.
Then, like a little old man, he gently patted the back of Elara’s hand. He was reassuring her in his silent way to not worry as help would come soon.
Five minutes later, a teacher arrived with four medical staff members.
Beau spotted the one stretcher in the medics‘ hands. His heart pounded, but he quickly reassured himself. He had only told the doctors that Niamh had fallen down the slope. Not mentioning Elara was the right choice.
They would take Niamh back to the camp first, make sure she was treated properly, and then later… He would let them go find Elara and Xavier. This could also serve as a lesson for his overly dramatic mother.
She was the one who had recklessly thrown herself down the slope to save Xavier when he was in danger. Let her suffer for it! She and Xavier could stay down there for a while and learn their lesson!
Bridget gasped when she saw Niamh sprawled on the slope. “Ms. Jones! This area is off–limits! Why did you enter a restricted zone?”
Niamh snapped back in irritation. “How was I supposed to know? There weren’t any fences or signs!”
Bridget glanced around. Just yesterday, they had carefully inspected all the game areas, marking off restricted zones with warning signs. But now, the sign that had been placed here was missing.
Harvey rushed over as soon as he got the news. His gaze immediately fell on a bright red scarf lying behind Niamh. Further down the slope, a long, distinct trail marked where someone had slid down.
As the medical staff reached out to assist Niamh, she let out a sharp scream: “Harvey!”
Looking shaken, she stretched her hand toward him.
Bridget’s expression was full of disdain. With professional rescuers present, why was Niamh still acting like she was in some melodramatic romance drama just as Harvey showed up?
The worst part? Harvey actually fell for it. He grasped Niamh’s hand without hesitation and pulled her up.
The medics moved to place her on the stretcher, but the moment they touched her, she let out another exaggerated wail.
“Let Harvey carry me instead,” she pleaded.
Bridget nearly rolled her eyes to the back of her head. “Does Mr. Fisher have some kind of superhuman ability? Does your pain just magically disappear when he touches you?”

A smug glint flashed in Niamh’s eyes. Bean’s homeroom teacher was clearly jealous of her. “Harvey cares about me. It won’t hurt if he carries me”
Harvey asked, “How did you fall?”
Niamh had already prepared her excuse. “I was picking mushrooms for Beau and accidentally slipped.”
Bridget immediately pressed, “Why on earth did you come to the slope?”
Without thinking, Niamh blurted out, “The mushrooms were growing on the slope.”
Bridget’s expression turned serious. “That’s impossible! For the children’s safety, we specifically placed the mushrooms in easy–to–reach areas. None of them were put on the restricted slopes!”
Niamh’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes darkened with hostility as she snapped. “What are you trying to say? I’m already injured, and you’re accusing me of lying? Are you just trying to push the blame onto me?”
Beau was feeling uneasy and couldn’t help but glance down the slope.
