Chapter 204
Finnegan stood stiffly, like a Doberman on high alert.
Elara climbed into the car, her voice soft and sweet as she asked, “Xav, can I carry you?”
Still half–asleep, Xavier instinctively leaned toward her. He nestled into Elara’s embrace, and she gently lifted him out of the car.
As he rested against her shoulder, he inhaled the light, comforting scent clinging to her. His half–lidded eyes fluttered, and he instinctively wrapped his small arms around her neck, seeking warmth.
The household staff arrived to greet them, but when they saw Elara carrying Xavier, their eyes widened in shock. Xavier avoided people and refused physical contact with anyone. Even with Leonard, the person closest to him, he often remained unresponsive.
Seeing how he was willing to be held by Elara, could this mean his autism was improving?
“Is Mr. Xavier asleep? Would you like me to carry him?” one of the staff offered.
Elara shook her head. “No need. He’s awake, but his body hasn’t fully caught up yet.”
She gently patted Xavier’s back. “Let him rest on me a little longer.”
Meanwhile, Finnegan carried Merida into the living room. She yawned, then slowly came to her senses. Elara then placed Xavier onto the couch and pulled out a few wet wipes, carefully wiping his face and hands.
As she bent forward, her long dark hair cascaded like a waterfall, and her every movement was light and soothing. Even her fingertips and palms radiated warmth.
Xavier’s eyes, which were dark and glossy like polished pearls, watched her intently. He reached out unconsciously as his fingers brushed the air, drawn to her hair…
“Prof. Fisher has arrived,” a household staff member announced.
Startled, Xavier quickly withdrew his hand. Elara turned her head and saw Leonard approaching in his electric wheelchair.
He wore a beige casual suit that was sharp and tailored, with rimless glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. The cold gleam from the lenses made him appear even more distant.
Elara had always thought Leonard was someone meant to wear white–as if the filth of the world could never
stain him.
He was like a towering, snow–capped mountain that was pristine and untouchable, inspiring awe and making people hesitate to desecrate his presence.
Meanwhile, Leonard’s gaze met Finnegan’s with an assessing expression, as if he was evaluating an intruder trespassing on his domain.
Finnegan, clad in a black trench coat with a dark shirt beneath, stood tall and imposing. His muscular build stretched the fabric taut, and his broad shoulders and long legs exuded an undeniable presence.
The way he looked at Leonard was as if he were guarding against a thief.
If he had to name the three people he despised most, Leonard would undoubtedly top the list. After all, his first separation from Elara had been because of Leonard.
When Finnegan left the military and arrived in the Capitol, he reunited with Elara. That was when he encountered

the second man he hated most in his life.
“I’m Harvey Fisher,” the man had introduced himself. “My uncle asked me to look after Elara while she’s in the Capitol.”
It turned out that Harvey’s so–called “looking after her” had meant trapping Elara inside a lavish golden cage.
A flicker of cold disdain flashed in Finnegan’s eyes as he said, “I’m just here for a meal. Surely, Prof. Fisher wouldn’t mind feeding an extra mouth?”
