That night, Elara prepared a full table of home–cooked dishes. When Lesley saw that they were all the foods she used to love, her eyes instantly grew warm with emotion.
She sat beside Elara, eating her creamy garlic pork chops while savoring every bite as if she could swallow her own tongue.
Lesley devoured her food like a starving tiger, taking huge mouthfuls. When she noticed Merida staring at her in awe, her face turned red with embarrassment.

Merida shook her head. “So, it’s not just me who thinks Mommy’s cooking is amazing! Lesley, eat as much as you

Back when Elara lived with the Fishers, Ethel had made her responsible for preparing meals for Harvey and the children. Yet every time she cooked, Harvey and Beau would nitpick and find faults.
Beau had grown accustomed to Elara’s cooking, but he always acted as if he were eating it begrudgingly.
“Beau, if you really don’t want to eat it, then don’t,” Merida had once advised him.
“I eat it as a favor to her!”
Merida knew he had learned this from their grandmother. As the future heir of the Fishers, Beau couldn’t let anyone know what he truly liked.
He had to act as if Elara needed to keep improving, constantly striving to become a more perfect, capable wife for a wealthy family.
Even so, once a thorn was embedded in someone’s heart, it would leave behind an unhealable wound even if it was removed.
Even if their mother had made mistakes, Merida couldn’t bear to see her hurt. Besides, in Merida’s eyes, being able to eat meals cooked by her mother every day was a blessing.
Watching Lesley eat so happily, Elara’s heart filled with warmth. Her home cooking had always been delicious–it was the seven years spent in the Fisher household that had slowly eroded her confidence in her own skills.
After finishing her first serving, Lesley went to get another. The table’s dishes were completel

After dinner, Lesley and Merida took care of the dishes, and Merida even took Lesley downstairs to dispose of the food waste. Elara poured three glasses of warm water and stepped out of the kitchen just as Lesley pulled a stack of documents from her suitcase, placing them on the coffee table.
“Elara, take a look at these. If everything looks good to you, just sign them.”
Elara picked up one of the documents and flipped to the first page. After reading a few paragraphs, she looked up in confusion. “Is this a share transfer agreement?”
Lesley nodded. “Everything I have now came from you. These things were yours to begin with, and I want to return them to you.”
Elara’s s voice softened. “Are you trying to cut ties with me?”
Lesley panicked and shook her head hastily. “Of course not Elara, I just want you to have the best of everything in

Elara set down the document and opened her arms. “Lesley, you’re just the best person in this world.” Lesley’s eyes turned rod. She threw herself into Elara’s embrace, holding her tightly.
Elara’s body had become fuller compared to five years ago. Her clothes carried the scent of laundry detergent, but beneath it, Lesley could still find that familiar scent she had always known.
“I’m just an ordinary person! It was you who pulled me out of the mud!” Lesley’s voice broke with emotion.
