Chapter 221
Harvey’s mocking expression froze on his face.
At that moment, Elara had just stepped out of the shower. Her hair was still damp, clinging to her shoulders and
neck.
The wet strands stuck to her slender collarbone, and the fabric of her clothes darkened where the moisture had seeped through. Her fair skin carried a delicate flush, still warm from the bath.
Harvey’s gaze lingered on her for a moment. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his breathing tightened involuntarily. The two officers exchanged knowing looks as their gazes shifted toward Harvey,
Harvey let out a short, bitter laugh. “Elara, are you doing this on purpose? You think this is the same as me and Niamh?”
“Mr. Fisher,” one of the officers interrupted, “Let go of the collar first. Right now, you’re trespassing and causing a disturbance.”
Elara lowered the mop, and Harvey finally released his grip on Lesley’s shirt. She immediately pulled Lesley behind her, shielding her protectively.
Lesley’s face had gone pale. The moment Harvey had grabbed her collar, old memories she had long buried came rushing back, clawing their way to the surface.
Harvey scoffed at the sight of Elara guarding Lesley so fiercely. He let out a disdainful snort through his nose.
“I grew up with Lesley. We’ve always been close, but it’s nothing more than friendship. If something were going to happen between us, do you really think you would’ve had a chance seven years ago?”
She wasn’t explaining–she was taunting him.
“I’ve known Niamh for over 20 years. If something were going to happen between us, do you think you’d ever have stood a chance?” That was what he’d said.
“Harvey, during our marriage, you kept acting like you and Niamh were nothing but close friends. Meanwhile, 1 cut off all contact with my best friend for years out of respect for you.
“I stayed loyal to you–so tell me, did you stay loyal to me?”
Harvey’s jaw tensed, his expression turning unreadable, but the rigid line of his jaw betrayed his frustration.
“What’s the big deal if Lesley spends a night at your ex–wife’s place? Didn’t you and Niamh book a hotel together once? Just the two of you alone for the night?”
Harvey’s brows furrowed deeply. “We didn’t do anything!”
Elara let out a cold laugh as she linked her arm with Lesley’s
“Of course, you didn’t. You and Niamh are the picture of purity. Then don’t project your filthy, twisted thoughts onto my friendship with Lesley.”
The tightness in Harvey’s chest was unbearable, like a tangled ball of yarn being clawed apart by a restless kitten. He knew Elara had always minded how close he was with Namh, but he had never cared about his wife’s feelings.
He had always been aware that Niamh harbored emotions for him that went beyond friendship. Yet, as long as he maintained his boundaries, he saw no problem in keeping her as a friend. Why should Elara have an issue with that?
Chapter 221
But now, Elara didn’t care about his feelings at all. When she uttered the words “best friend“, his reaction was instant and intense. And yet, he had neither the right nor the grounds to stop her.
He wanted to tell himself that they were divorced, that whatever Elara did–even if she ended up in bed with her so -called “best friend“-was none of his concern. But logic falled to override his visceral reaction.
His gaze locked onto Elara and Lesley, his fists clenching so tightly that veins bulged across the backs of his hands. Meanwhile, Elara found his reaction laughable. It seemed it would only hurt when the knife turned on him.
But right now, Harvey didn’t even have the right to feel pain.
Just then, one of the officers squinted slightly, his gaze lingering on Lesley’s neck. Inwardly, he mused–this person really was Elara’s innocent best friend. She had no Adam’s apple!
The mighty CEO of Fisher Corp had been so blinded by anger that he couldn’t even tell whether the person in front of him was a man or a woman. Still, the officer didn’t consider Harvey’s mistake worth correcting
Instead, he reminded him, “Mr. Fisher, don’t forget why you’re here.”
The officer’s words snapped Harvey back to reality. His expression darkened once more, and he ordered Elara in his usual commanding tone, “I need you to sign a statement of leniency for Niamh.”
Niamh had been detained by the police for public endangerment and sentenced to ten days of detention and a one-
-dollar fine. It was already
the maximum administrative penalty fm shedd
offense.
But with the International Racing Championship fast approaching, Harvey had spent a fortune hiring engineers from Moonchaser Racing Club for Niamh’s team. She needed time to train and familiarize herself with the team.
By the time she was released, the International Racing Championship would already be over. That was why Harvey had brought the police and a lawyer straight to Elara’s doorstep he had no intention of giving her the chance to refuse.
