Harvey was determined to get Elara’s signed statement of leniency. But she simply smiled and asked, “Do you really think I’d ever agree to something like that?”
Harvey’s patience grew thin. “I’m giving you one chance to name your price.”
He then handed her a blank check.
Elara took it as the corners of her lips curved up. “Pass me a pen.”
If money came knocking on her door, why not take it? Harvey glanced at his lawyer, who immediately handed her
a pen.
Without hesitation, Elara wrote down a number. She then handed the check back to Harvey. “Sign it first.”
Harvey’s breath hitched the moment he saw the amount.
“100 million dollars?” His dark eyes were heavy with disbelief, like ink too thick to dissolve.
A scornful laugh escaped him. “This is extortion!”
Elara immediately turned to the police officers. “You officers saw that, didn’t you? Harvey handed me a blank check and asked me to fill it in. Now that I have, he’s accusing me of extortion. Isn’t this entrapment?”
Both officers and the lawyer coughed lightly, averting their gazes.
One of the officers tried to mediate. “Mr. Fisher, why don’t you suggest a number and see if Ms. Jones finds it acceptable?”
The lawyer chimed in as well. “Yes, we came in person because we genuinely want to settle this.”
“One million dollars,” Harvey stated.
Elara let out a laugh. “So, in your eyes, Niamh is worth just one million?”
His breathing turned uneven. “No. You’re only worth one million in compensation.”
Elara’s soft features sharpened as she narrowed her eyes. “Mr. Fisher, you don’t seem like you’re here to make peace. Please leave. I won’t be seeing you out.”
She moved to close the door, but Harvey pressed his large hand firmly against it as he said, “Three million dollars!
Elara mimicked his earlier tone. “Do you think this is a marketplace where you can haggle? Listen carefully, Harvey. I’m giving you only one chance.”
She threw his own words right back at him. “Ten million dollars. Ten million for me, and ten million for Xavier. If you refuse, then get lost.”
And then she added, “My ten million has to come from Niamh’s account.”
Harvey was just about to speak when Elara cut him off. “If she doesn’t have enough money in her account, then the Jones family can cover it for her.”
He stared at her flawless, pale face. She was like a freshly sharpened blade, gleaming with an edge too sharp for him to face directly.
Elara hadn’t always been this way. She used to be a piece of warm, delicate porcelain, quietly staying by his side- so much so that sometimes, Harvey barely even noticed her presence.

Harvey then called Abel. Abel figured that transferring ten million to Elara was essentially moving money from one pocket to another–he’d get it back eventually. So, he agreed and immediately wired the compensation to Elara’s account.

Elara checked her account balance before saying, “The money is in, but I want to see Niamh make an act of atonement for what she did.”
Ignoring the anger simmering in Harvey’s eyes, Elara turned to the two officers behind him.
“Officers, according to the new public security regulatioris, you can require Niamh to record a public apology video and post it on her social media.
“She has extensive connections in Capitol, so let’s have her friends give it 999 likes. Once that’s done, I’ll sign the statement of leniency.”
Harvey’s brows furrowed so tightly they cast a shadow over his sharp features. His face was dark with barely restrained fury. “Are you trying to completely ruin her? Elara, I won’t let you target her like this!”
Her smile was dazzling, almost blinding in its confidence, as she replied, “You have three minutes. Call Niamh and have her record and post the apology video within that time.
“Elara Jones, I’m giving you ten seconds to think about it.” That was another thing he said to her.
