Chapter 239
“Isn’t it normal for kids to admire strength?” Niamh spoke up in Beau’s defense.
“What’s wrong with him wanting a stronger, more capable mother?”
Elara shot her a look of pure disdain. “With a brain smaller than a sunflower seed, you think you’re worthy of speaking to me?”
“Why, you little…”
Niamh clenched her fists, fuming, but she had to maintain her image and couldn’t curse out loud with so many people watching
She turned to Harvey, silently pleading for his support. Meanwhile, Harvey’s expression was heavy. His chest was tight with emotions he couldn’t find a way to release.
The sun burned fiercely overhead, yet the air that filled his lungs felt like icy blades slicing through his nasal –
passages.
His voice was cold, like the surface of a frozen lake as he said, “Your reason for revealing your true identity in front of all these people, wasn’t it just to make us see you differently?”
Elara let out a sharp, chilly laugh. “I don’t even like you anymore. Can you stop flattering yourself?”
Harvey’s lips pressed into a tight line, and the hard lines of his face grew even colder.
Elara met his gaze and said firmly, “I didn’t expose my identity as a racer to impress you or your son. I didn’t enter the ALI Math Competition to earn your approval.
“The only thing I want now is to be Elara Jones, not Mrs. Fisher!”
A reporter thrust a microphone toward her. “Ms. Jones, it’s clear there’s deep resentment between you and your ex
husband and son. So, why did you spend seven years in the Fishers‘ household before choosing to walk away?
Elara’s eyes became distant. She took a deep breath before responding, “That’s because I became a mother.”
After her children were born, she had spent countless nights watching them sleep soundly, wiping their tears, and holding their tiny bodies in her arms. She had bathed them, cooked for them, and tirelessly taught them to speak their first words.
She hadn’t wanted to miss a single moment of their childhood. As long as she could see them happy, her heart was full. As long as there was love between them, she was content.
Her dark eyes settled on Beau as she added, “All I can say is. I have given it everything I have or motherhood journey!”
“You did it on purpose!”
Beau felt Elara’s calm gaze on him. It was calm, but devoid of any expectation. It was as if she had stopped hoping for anything from him.
Like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, he lashed out at her, venting his frustration without restraint.
“You deliberately showed off your racing skills, made me idolize you, just so that today, you could take off your helmet and make me regret not wanting you as my mom!”
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. His entire body trembled, and his eyes burned red with
emotion
Chapter 235
“Bean!” Merida called ent
She reached out and touched her small belly Bean flinched and in that instant, he remembered something from long ago
During an argument with Elara, she had told him, “Bean, when you’re upset with Mommy, touch your belly botton That was once the place where we were connected, where our hearts beat as one
If their hearts were truly connected, maybe he could have known much sooner that his mommy was Loma
“Even if you’re Lana, I still won’t accept you as my mom! Beau screamed, all while forcing back his tears as he turned and ran.
Niamh suddenly noticed a group of racers gathered not far way, whispering amongst themselves. From time to time, a few of them shot her wary and disdainful glances.
It hit her like a slap. She had planted tiny insects inside their helmets before the race. A strange sense of unease crawled up her spine.
She quickly pulled out her phone and saw a new message from the lighting technician who had helped her with the setup
“Niamh, I’ve been caught.”
Her heart pounded. Shit!
Panic surged through her as she looked up, just in time to see Beau running off. She immediately chased after him.
“Wah!” Beau ran as he cried.
Tears blurred his vision, and he couldn’t even explain why he was so upset. A storm of emotions churned in his chest, feelings he couldn’t understand.
“Ack
Just then, he tripped and crashed onto the ground. Pain shot through his legs, leaving him too weak to get up.
“Ugh!”
Frustrated, he pounded the ground with his fists–only to realize that his hands hurt too. The pain only made him. cry harder.
Then, someone walked over and lifted him up. Beau immediately froze, his eyes widening in shock.
His instincts took over, and before he could stop himself, he turned and blurted out…
“Mornmy…”
