When Ethel heard the noise, she quickly turned her head.
Merida also let go of Harvey’s tie. She hurried over, only to see several nurses pushing a mobile hospital bed out of the operating room.
Merida’s steps came to an abrupt halt, and her entire body froze in place. Her dark round eyes stared at Heau, who was on the bed.
His eyes were closed as if he was asleep, and most of his face was obscured by an oxygen mask. His head, arms, and legs were wrapped in layers of bandages.
She could barely recognize him. It was the first time she had ever seen Beau like this.
A huge wave of panic surged through her. It was as if an invisible hand was clamped over her mouth, leaving her small body trembling uncontrollably.
Quite a few tubes were attached to Beau’s body, and a nurse was holding up an IV bag.
At that moment, Elara didn’t have the strength to look away. It was as if a hot poker had pierced her heart, burning her blood into rising wisps of white smoke. All her vitality and hope drained from her then.
Ethel let out a wail of despair at the sight of Beau. A group of doctors emerged from the operating room, among them Benjamin.
Beau’s attending physician, a highly esteemed figure at Capitol Medical Center, recognized Harvey and walked up to him.
“We have successfully completed the emergency surgery on Beau. He now needs to be monitored in the ICU for 48/ hours,” he said.
“How is his condition, exactly?” asked Harvey.
The attending physician answered truthfully, “Not good. Even if his vital signs stabilize after 48 hours, his brain has suffered severe trauma. Whether he will regain consciousness is still unknown…”
As he spoke, his voice carried a hint of sorrow.
“Mr. Fisher, please prepare for the worst.”
Ethel heard the doctor’s words and rushed forward in a panic.
“How can you ask us to prepare for the worst? You must ensure that Beau is safe and sound!”
The attending physician looked unhappy. “The best doctors from every department were involved in this surgery. We have all done our best!”
Abel shot several glances at Benjamin.
Niamh, who was slumped on the ground and unable to get up, saw Benjamin and immediately asked, “Benjamin, Beau alright now, right?”
Benjamin replied, “His life has been saved, but whether he will regain consciousness is the problem. If he doesn’t wake up, he will most likely fall into a vegetative state. If he does wake up…”
He then looked at Beau, who was lying on the hospital bed, and continued, “I doubt he will be able to walk again.”
Ethel let out a terrible wail. Her legs buckled, and she was no longer able to support her body. The driver quickly supported her. He then moved her to a chair and had her sit down

Slumped in the chair, she clutched her chest with one hand and sobbed hard.
Harvey furrowed his brows tightly, growing increasingly tintated by his mother’s cries
Niamh began to tremble. Her lips quivered, and her teeth chattered. If Beau didn’t wake up, wouldn’t she be toast?
Two police officers approached Niamh and clasped a pair of handcuffs around her wrists.
“Niamh, come with us to the detention center.”
Ethel used all her strength and yelled furiously, “I won’t let you off the hook, Niamh! If anything happens to Beau, you’ll pay with your life!”
Niamh was terrified. She frantically looked at Harvey.
“Harvey, I’m a victim too! It was an accident. I never meant to hurt Beau!” she yelled. However, the mari she viewed as her saving grace didn’t spare her a single glance.
The police took her away. Meanwhile, a few nurses pushed the hospital bed into the ICU.
Merida followed the bed, but when she reached the ICU entrance, the nurse stopped her from going inside.
