Chapter 248
Ethel pressed the answer button and put the phone to her ear.
“Apologies, Madam Foster, but I’ve received notice from my superiors that they have decided not to grant you the Women’s Day Award for the time being.”
Ethel’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly asked, “Did someone report me?”
Could Elara really have incriminating evidence against her? Thoughts raced through Ethel’s mind. Elara had spent seven years lying low in the Fisher family. Had she been secretly working as a spy?
“Madam Foster, your son has already been taken away by the police, and the entirety of the Internet is calling you a wicked mother–in–law. Given the public opinion, we at the Women’s Advocacy have no choice but to distance ourselves from you.”
“Mrs. Harrison…”
Before Ethel could finish her sentence, Sabrina Harrison had already hung up.
She tried calling back, but before she could, another incoming call appeared on her phone screen. It was from the staff at the Red Cross Foundation. She had a bad feeling.
“Hello?”
“Madam Foster, apologies, but in light of the public sentiment online, we will be removing your name from the Honorary Chairperson list.”
Ethel’s heart pounded wildly.
“How could you….” She was just about to speak when another call came in.
Ethel answered again, only to find that her position at another charitable organization had also been revoked. She was especially depressed and asked Zayne, confused, “What did I do wrong?”
That night, Niamh’s social media account on a certain short–video platform was officially shut down. However, online discussions about her taking a five–year–old child on a motorcycle ride only intensified.
At home, Elara received a call from Leonard.
“Xavier asked me to check in on you,” he said.
His clear voice flowed into her ear like a stream. He sounded somewhat reluctant.
Elara responded, “I’m quite alright.”
“You performed exceptionally in the race.” Leonard then added, after a pause, “Xavier said so.”
Elara smiled and said, “Harvey being taken in for police questioning will inevitably shake the Fisher Corporation’s stock price. I wonder if this will affect you.”
She spoke to him with utmost respect.
Leonard replied, “It has no effect whatsoever. My businesses have always been separate from Fisher Corp.”
Elara let out a sigh of relief.

“Next week, I’ll be taking over the acquisition project at loss Tech, so you can await the good news,” she told him.
Leonard’s voice was cool and distant as he hummed in reply
“Mr. Fisher, do you believe I can succeed?” Elara was unavoidably a little nervous when she asked this question.
“You are Elara Jones.” His words were like a gentle breeze clearing her mind. A smile touched her lips as she nodded. She was Elara Jones–the one Leonard had picked out of millions.
Two days later, at the Fishers‘ residence, Thomas Fisher and Zachary sat in the tea room.
Zachary poured Thomas a cup of tea and respectfully said to his father, “Harvey’s matter has been settled. After all, he is one of Capitol’s outstanding young entrepreneurs, and those above have an interest in protecting him. Given the current economic situation, they also want Fisher Corp to achieve better results.”
Thomas sighed. “Harvey is still too sentimental.”
Zachary pursed his lips and said nothing.
Thomas looked up. His gaze was sharp beneath his graying brows. “Arrange a blind date for Harvey as soon as possible. After what happened with Beau, you should understand the importance of him having more children.”
Zachary nodded. “I will discuss Harvey’s blind date carefully with Ethel ”
Thomas picked up his tea and added, “The private tutoring originally arranged for Beau should now go to Xavier. Speak with Leonard and have Xavier move into the main estate.”
Upon hearing this, Zachary visibly froze.
