Chapter 265
Merida dashed to Elara’s other side, raising her leg in the air, ready to unleash a spinning kick.
“Lara…”
A familiar voice rang out, making Merida abruptly halt her attack.
“Grandma? What are you doing here?” she asked in confusion.
Elara’s stunned gaze swept over Daphne.
It was the dead of winter, yet Daphne was wearing nothing but a thin, white silk dress. She had no shoes on, and her fair bare feet were now flushed red from the cold.
Elara couldn’t fathom why Daphne had put herself in such a state.
“Mom, where are your shoes?”
Daphne’s cheeks were flushed, her hair was disheveled, and tears welled up in her eyes. She clenched her fists while sobbing and rubbing at her tears.
“I heard that Priscilla was back, so I called Abel. But he didn’t answer! So, I went to the airport to find him, and I saw him with Priscilla… Waah! My heart hurts so much!”
Daphine had always been pampered and cherished by Abel to the point that even Elara once thought they were a loving couple
Thinking back to Abel’s behavior at the executive meeting today–how he had rushed off to pick up Priscilla and hadn’t even returned to the office all afternoon–Elara feltna urge to go looking for him.
If anything, his absence made her role as the new vice president much easier.
Instead, she simply asked, “Mom, what are you planning to do? Are you going to divorce him?”
Elara refused to acknowledge that man as her father, the very thought of it repulsed her.
Daphne’s eyes brimmed with tears as she whined dramatically, “Lara, how can you be so heartless? Just because your marriage was miserable, does that mean you want everyone else to be like you?
“Do you want me to get divorced and become a woman that no man wants?”
Elara rolled her eyes, utterly unimpressed. Trying to reason with Daphne was pointless.
Daphne was an orphan that Abel had adopted. The two were ten years apart in age, and Daphne never continued her education after finishing middle school.
Elara was shocked when she first learned about this, but Daphne simply said she wasn’t smart and struggled academically. Abel had kept her sheltered, allowing her to live a carefree life.
Elara asked, “Then why did you come to me
Daphne pouted her chapped lips and clutched at the hem of Elara’s coat with her reddened fingers.
“Lara, help me think of a solution! You’re my daughter! It’s a daughter’s duty to help her mother win back her husband’s heart.
“How can you just stand by and watch some vixen steal your father away?”
Merida chimed in, “Grandma, Mom never asked me to help her win back my former dad.”
Chapter 265
Daphne Immediately corrected her, “I told you not to call me Grandma! I’m a baby just like you!”
Elara pulled her coat free from Daphne’s grasp. “Mom, just go home.”
Daphne stomped her feet, threw her head back, and wailed, “I want Abel! Waah! If you don’t make Abel come pick me up, I’m not leaving!”
With that, she crouched down and hugged her shoulders. She then rested her chin on her arms, and sobbed uncontrollably.
“Abel… Abel Wah, I love you so much! Where are you?”
Elara sighed and pulled out her phone, scrolling through her contacts to find Benjamin’s number.
As she searched, she tried to reason with Daphne. “If you insist on waiting for that man, then at least find somewhere warm. What’s the point of making yourself look like this?
“A man wh
abandoned you, abandoned his company, and rushed to the airport to pick up another woman–do you really think he’ll feel guilty seeing you like this? That he’ll pity you?
“Besides, what’s guilt worth anyway?”
