Chapter 269
Mary’s heart pounded in fear. “Mr. Beau!”
“Mommy!” Beau used both hands to desperately try to crawl toward Elara
“Mommy, just look at me!”
Tears poured down his face, and his cheeks were flushed red. Ignoring the pain wracking his body, he used every bit of his strength to drag himself forward.
A light drizzle began to fall from the sky, and Mary hurriedly scooped him up into her arms.
Meanwhile, Elara and Merida were waiting in front of the elevator. Mary simply carried Beau and ran toward them.
When the elevator doors slid open, Elara and Merida stepped inside.
“Mommy!”
Beau’s cry was gut–wrenching. He stretched out his arms, but all he could do was watch as the elevator doors closed before him.
He slapped his hands against the metal doors, and his wails echoed through the hallway.
“Mommy! I promise I’ll never make you angry again! Please come back! I’m begging you, come back!”
The elevator ascended.
Elara lifted her head, and the overhead lights cast reflections in her eyes. A misty sheen had blurred her usually sharp gaze.
A meal that Beau had thrown away could be cooked again. A rom workbook or a ruined textbook could be rewritten. But love that had been discarded was almost impossible to retrieve.
Even if he tried to piece together the shattered fragments he had smashed himself, the cracks would remain- forever unfixable.
This was the final lesson she would teach him as a mother.
She would show him that after being repeatedly hurt without remorse, even a mother could summon the courage to walk away from the son who had inflicted the pain.
“Mommy… Merida whispered.
She could feel how much Elara was hurting. She wanted to say something to comfort her, but no matter how she searched for the right words, none seemed enough.
Elara bit down on her lower lip so hard that a deep mark was left behind. She lowered her head, wanting to give Merida a reassuring smile–to tell her that she was fine.
But the moment she tried to move her lips, burning tears spilled uncontrollably down her cheeks. Merida’s heart clenched at the sight, and a sharp sting spread through her nose.
“Mommy, do you regret giving birth to Beau?”
Elara shook her head and crouched down. Meanwhile, Merida reached out to gently wipe away the tears from her
face

Elara said to her, “Merida, I want to give you both the best of everything. The Fisher family can’t provide the same resources and opportunities for both you and Beau.
“I will do everything I can to lift you up, to help you experience the world, find your purpose, and become whoever you want to be.
“But the Fisher family can give Bleau the best. As long as he remains their eldest grandson, he will have access to resources that millions could only dream of.
“For your sake and for Beau’s, we must sever all ties with the Fisher family. If I soften toward him and allow him to stay in contact with me, Ethel will think I’m trying to take him away. That would drag us into an endless cycle of trouble.”
Merida nodded. “I want Mommy, but I also want a better future.”
She then made a decision in her heart–she would find the night time to tell Beau that everything their mother did was for their growth and their future.
Inside the elevator lobby, Beau sobbed so hard he was nearly gasping for breath. His throat trembled as he spoke
to Mary.
“Hurry… Take me upstairs. Mommy- lives on the 16th floor, apartment 1603!”
Mary sighed helplessly, but she had no choice. She followed his instructions and pressed the button for the other elevator.
“Mr. Beau, look at how heartless your mother is. Even if you bang on her door, she won’t open it for you! Let’s just go back.”
“I don’t want to!”
At that moment, the community security guard arrived, summoned by a call from Elara.
“Who are you people? If you don’t live here, you can’t loiter around.”
The guard approached them, ready to remove them from the premises.
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Beau shouted, “Horry!”
Mary rushed inside with him and pressed the button for the 16th floor–only to find that it wouldn’t light up.
“Press it!” Beau urged.
“I am! But… It’s not working

The security guard propped a hand against the elevator door and said with a cold gaze, “You need an access card to use this elevator. You’re not going anywhere without one.”
“Take the stairs!” Beau demanded.
Mary, however, was not keen on the idea.
The guard called after them. “Come on, time to leave.”
Tears welled up in Beau’s eyes. He simply turned to Mary and said, “Just take me outside.”
Mary carried him out of the building, only to be greeted by an unexpected sight–Daphne twirling in the pouring rain.
