Leonard turned his head and glanced into the hospital room, where doctors were busily working around the bed.
Beau’s condition… didn’t seem good.
“What happened to your son?”
“His heartless mother did this to him!”
The moment those words left his mouth, a sharp, blade–like chill sliced across Harvey’s face. A sting spread over his cheek as if a frigid wind had lashed against it
Harvey asked, “Uncle Leonard, why are you looking at me like that?”
Did he say something wrong?
“My son went to Elara, begging her to make peace. He pleaded for his mother to look at him, to hold him, but she left him outside in the rain and ignored him completely.
“Now that Beau’s like this, does she truly bear no responsibility for it as his mother?”
Leonard’s impeccably handsome face remained unreadable “Are you hoping I’ll stand by you and blame Elara?”
Harvey met his gaze directly. “Uncle Leonard, you’re still a Fisher. Don’t forget where your loyalties should lie.”
Leonard’s dark, unfathomable eyes remained indifferent as they studied Harvey.
“I am part of the Fisher family, and of course, I will stand by the Fisher family–unless someone in the family crosses the line.”
Harvey’s expression darkened. His voice turned sharp.
“Elara and I are divorced. Uncle Leonard, in what capacity are you defending her?”
Leonard’s concern for Elara went beyond what was normal. It exceeded the care of a teacher for a former student.
Besides, could Leonard even be considered Elara’s teacher? He had never properly mentored her.
Leonard met Harvey’s eyes and asked, “Do you know the real reason Elara married you?”
Harvey froze for a moment. There was a buzzing sound ringing in his head.
“Why else would she marry me? She liked me. She wanted my status…”
“She did care about your status.”
Leonard’s deep, unfathomable eyes held too many secrets. Harvey felt unsettled under that gaze, and his heart pounded in his chest.
“I was the head of Fisher Corp. Her intentions toward me were never pure.
“That’s true,” Leonard admitted. “She spent seven years in the Fisher family for a much greater goal.”
Harvey’s breath caught, his eyes widening as he stared at Leonard. This man–seated in his wheelchair–was an unattainable mountain he had always looked up to.
“For the past seven years, I rarely returned to the Capitol to avoid drawing attention to any connection between us.
“But for people to naturally assume that it was nothing unusual for us to cross paths, the only explanation had to be that she was your wife, a member of the Fisher family.”

Dark clouds gathered over Harvey’s expression, and his gaze turned pitch black.
“You’re saying Elara married me… because of you?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Harvey let out a sharp laugh.
Was Leonard talking nonsense? Did he have feelings for Elara as well?
He had defended her time and time again–he must have personal motives! Leonard was deliberately saying this to provoke him, to take Elara’s side.
“If she stayed in the Fisher family for you, then why didn’t she just marry you?”
Harvey’s lips curled into a sneer, his voice dripping with malice.
