Chapter 273
Leonard stared at him in silence. His cold gaze was as deep as a still lake. Harvey’s eyes then dropped to Leoned’s legs.
Seven years ago, Leonard had been sanctioned by Melcina and placed on their national security watchlist. If be ever left Eucon or entered any country with an extradition treaty with Melcina, he risked being arrested.
Such sanctions were seen as a badge of honor for many scholars in Eucon. Tobias, for instance, had been placed on Melcina’s restricted entry list five years ago.
Melcina barred him from entering any allied country under the guise of academic research, effectively preventi the world’s top ten universities from collaborating with him or Leonard.
Even so, as long as they remained in Eucon, their lives remained largely unaffected. Leonard, however, was not so fortunate.
The car accident that crippled him had been a deliberate attempt on his life. Though he’d survived, he’d lost the ability to walk.
From that moment on, the Fisher family distanced themselves from Leonard even further. He, in turn, cut all ties with their business and avoided any involvement with anyone within the family.
To Harvey, Leonard had no real connection to Elara beyond selecting her from thousands and recommending her for the junior program. The few times they had crossed paths were at family banquets.
Each time Elara saw Leonard, she only nodded in greeting. They exchanged no further words
For years, this led Harvey to believe that Leonard and Elara were practically strangers. And yet, Leonard’s words now gripped his heart like a steel vice.
“You said Elara had a greater goal–what was it?”
Leonard’s sharp gaze reflected his complete understanding of Harvey’s fear and unease.
Everything Harvey had believed–that Elara had once loved him–had just been overturned with ease.
“Her mission is over. Under the protection of her status as Mrs. Fisher, she was able to live like any ordinary
person
“But the Fisher family’s protection ends here. From now on, she is under my care, and don’t expect me to thank you for anything
“You married her, yet failed to give her a normal married life. The mighty CEO of Fisher Corp couldn’t even manage his own household properly.
“Harvey Fisher, you’re utterly useless.”
Leonard’s words struck like a judge delivering a final verdict in court, as if a sharp axe was coming straight at Harvey.
Inside the hospital room, Xavier placed the bouquet of carnations on the bedside table. At the same time, Beau was burning up, and his entire body was feverish and delirious.
When he saw Xavier, memories of the parent–child event flooded his mind–Elara holding Xavier’s hand, clinging tightly to him as she tumbled down the steep slope.
Flames of resentment burned in Beau’s eyes. He gathered all his strength and roared at Xavier, “Get out!”

Xavier had only come to drop off the flowers. If Merida hold him that Rea was hospitalized and badly injured, he wouldn’t have come at all
Hearing Beau’s furious outburst, Kasher turned to leave without beritation
However, Beau wasn’t done. His voice echoed through the geom at he shouted, “fakes your resers with you!”
“What’s wrong with my precious grandson?”
Ethel entered, trying to soothe Beau, but he cried out in frotation, “I don’t want to saver! hate him!” Ethel’s gaze toward Navier grew even colder. Recently, Ethel had already developed some resentment because Navier had taken over Beau’s private tutoring sessions.
Ethel picked up the bouquet of carnations and shoved it toward Xavier “Take them away! Beau is allergle to pollen!”
Frankly, camations produced very little pollen and were unlikely to cause allergies. Even so, Xavier hosted the flowers to his chest and ran out of the room
Leonard, who had been outside, heard the commotion along with Beau’s relentless wailing Xavier stopped three feet away from Leonard, lowering his head while the bouquet dragged along the floor.
A heavy shadow seemed to shroud the boy.
Leonard said, “If he doesn’t want it, just throw it away.”
Xavier clutched the flowers tighter and shook his head. Instead, he walked into another patient’s room and the carnations to someone else.
Leonard then turned to Harvey. “Go apologize to Xavier.”
Harvey hesitated. “But Beau is still sick…”
“I told you to apologize to Xavier.” Leonard deliberately emphasized the first few words,
This time, Harvey should understand exactly what he meant.
