Chapter 277
Harvey rewound the surveillance footage, setting it back to seven years ago. In their first year of marriage, Elara always cooked for him herself.
She would sit in the dining room, waiting by the table for him to come home. She personally took care of his clothes, carefully selecting his ties and cufflinks.
Harvey watched as, on one particular night, she stood beside the trash can for a long time. Her head was lowered as she threw away the meal she had prepared for him–because he never came home to eat,
So, love really could be worn down to nothing in a short amount of time. She could have left the Fisher family much earlier, yet she still chose to bear his children.
Leonard’s voice echoed in his mind, “She spent seven years in the Fisher family for a much greater goal.”
What was the greater goal? Harvey had a vague idea, but he refused to acknowledge it.
He pulled out Niamh’s old phone and pressed play on a recorded audio file.
“Niamh, where’s my sister–in–law? I can’t find her. She was the one who told me to come here. Can you help me reach her?”
That night, Dawn had entered an old building in the city’s historic district. She was chased by a gang of thugs, fighting back as much as she could, but they forced her onto the rooftop.
She hadn’t wanted to die, yet she fell from that rooftop.
All of those thugs had been caught. The mastermind turned out to be a wealthy young man from her school–one who had relentlessly pursued her.
Harvey never expected that it was Elara who had arranged for Dawn to meet her that night.
That same night, Elara had been with him, being warm and affectionate. The comfort of her embrace had dulled his senses. By the time he came to his senses, he had already missed Dawn’s call.
The wealthy young man responsible for her death had been linked to multiple violent crimes. Many had died at his hands. He was then executed last year due to pressure from the Fisher family.
A life for a life. But Dawn was never corning back.
Harvey clenched the old phone tightly in his hand and dialed his assistant.
“Get in touch with the police. There’s a new lead in Dawn’s case… A recorded conversation. I need an audio analysis done.”
After hanging up, he returned to the surveillance footage.
It was like an addiction–he had to watch every moment of Elara’s past, comb through all the footage, and uncover every single instance of how she had fooled him.
Harvey didn’t sleep a wink that night. By the time morning arrived, he sat in his armchair with a grim expression. His sharp features were seemingly covered in a thick layer of frost.
When he stood up to wash up, every bone in his body felt as if it had been stored in a freezer overnight. They were now creaking with every movement.
By the time he stepped out of the bathroom, his phone had been ringing for a while.
Harvey answered, only to hear Ethel’s frantic voice on the other end.

“Harvey, something terrible has happened! Beau ran away from the hospital again! Oh my god, what do we do?” Ethel was beside herself with panic, but to Harvey, she was just making noise.
A thought immediately crossed his mind. He cut her off and sald, “I’m going to Spring Garden myself.” Spring Garden was the name of Elara’s residence.
Beau had thrown a fit last night, demanding to eat Elara’s homemade soup. Of course, he had run off to find her again
Ethel shrieked. “What? He went looking for that woman again? What kind of spell did she put on him?”
Before she could finish, Harvey hung up.
At that moment, the morning sun had just begun to rise, its soft golden light spilling across the streets like delicate silk
Beau hid in the greenery by the roadside, peering out cautiously.
Meanwhile, Elara stood beside Merida, watching as the little girl crouched down. She was focused on a group of stray cats lapping up a bowl of soup.
“Is it good? Mom made this soup. It’s nutritious and health!”
The stray cats had been wary of people at first, but over time, Merida had gained their trust. She planned to take them for neutering in a few days and then find them homes
Elara reminded her, “You’re going to be late for school.”
Only then did Merida get up, waving at the cats. “Bye–bye! l come see you after school!”
Beau watched as Elara and Merida walked away, their figures growing smaller in the distance. He shrank back into the shadows like a little mouse, silently observing everything.
Then, he slowly stepped out from behind the bushes. He knew Elara had seen him just now. She had noticed him, but she pretended she hadn’t.
His mother really didn’t want him anymore!
At that moment, being ignored made him feel like a wandering ghost. It was like he was drifting aimlessly, belonging nowhere.
Large, heavy tears rolled down his cheeks.
Since waking up from the car accident, his taste buds had changed. More than anything, he craved Elara’s chicken noodle soup, but he would never taste it again.
“Waah Waah… Mommy, I really regret everything now.”
