“Ah!” Harold let out a pained cry as Elara yanked her arm free from his grip and stepped back.
“Elara, it’s me!” Harold clutched the side of his face, which was already swelling from the blow.
Elara concealed the disdain in her eyes and said coolly, “Oh it’s you, Dr. Judd. I thought I was being attacked by some thug.”
Beside Harold stood a foreigner, who froze for a moment upon seeing Elara’s face.
Harold rubbed his bruised cheek, grimacing “A place like The Mirage wouldn’t have thugs roaming around. I just wanted to ask what are you doing here?”
Elara turned the question back on him. “What about you? What are you doing here?”
Harold glanced at the man beside him before smiling. “I’m here for a business engagement.‘
The foreigner simply nodded at Elara in greeting, and she responded with the same courtesy before turning to Harold. “Well, I’ll be on my way then.”
She made a move to leave, but Harold quickly stepped in front of her, blocking her path.
“Elara, I’ve been trying to find an opportunity to talk to you about Joss Tech. Ever since you joined, you’ve suddenly introduced two more companies interested in acquiring it. What’s going on?”
Elara met his gaze calmly. “And what does Joss Tech’s matter have to do with you?”
Harold’s throat tightened. Clearly anxious, he pressed on. “Ohm Technologies is counting on you to facilitate the acquisition. Don’t you want to join Ohm Technologies and become a senior executive at a multinational corporation?”
Elara gave a light chuckle. “In business, the highest bidder wins. Since two other companies have shown interest in Joss Tech, if Ohm Technologies truly wants it, they’ll have to offer a price that Joss Tech finds satisfactory.” Harold’s face darkened with frustration. “That’s unethical!”
Elara blinked, feigning an innocent expression. Her face was bare of any makeup, and her features were delicate yet unreadable.
“Let me be honest with you,” she said lightly. “I just had a meeting with Priscilla Price, the CEO of Price Nation she’s also interested in acquiring Joss Tech.”
Harold was so shocked that he stuttered, “Even Price Nation is getting involved…”
“If I choose to go with Ohm Technologies, which offered the lowest bid, that would mean offending the other three domestic giants. Would you be willing to take that fallout for me?”
