Chapter 296
Merida looked up and locked eyes with Ethel.
Confused, she asked, “What are you staring at?”
Ethel reacted as if she had seen an enemy. “What are you doing here?”
She had received news that Xavier had once again brought bodyguards to visit Beau at the hospital, and she had rushed over, fearing Xavier might do something to harm hi
But the moment she saw Merida standing there, her anger ared.
In the past, Ethel had never taken Xavier seriously. Though he was Leonard’s adopted son, he was still just that- adopted. The true heir of the Fisher family had always been under Harwy’s control.
But now, with Beau hospitalized and Xavier beginning to receive heir training for the Fisher family, Ethel hadn’t slept soundly for days.
And seeing Merida the granddaughter she believed to be a traitor–only added fuel to her fury. If she could, she would have slapped the child right then and there.
Merida stood firm and declared, “Beau hasn’t been to school for days. All his classmates know he was in a car accident, and they’ve been really worried about him. I came here on behalf of our class to visit him.”
Ethel scoffed. “Like a fox pretending to look after the chicken coop–you’re definitely up to no good!”
Merida’s temper flared. “Enough with the clucking then, you hen! You’re blocking my way!”
Ethel practically crackled with fury. Sparks were flying off her.
“How dare you talk back to me? Is this how your mother raised you? You have no manners at all!”
Merida stood her ground, exuding confidence. In the past, she had to swallow her pride, but now back down when faced with Ethel’s hostility.
“You called Beau a chicken, so that makes you the mother hen, doesn’t it?”
“Grandma, you’re so loud!” Beau, who was lying in bed, groaned in frustration.
refused to
Despite her anger, Ethel still doted on her grandson. She stormed into the room, fixing Merida with a glare as if the five–year–old owed her a fortune.
“Get out of here, now!”
“Bleh!” Merida and Xavier stuck their tongues out at her in unison, making exaggerated faces.
Ethel’s chest burned with rage. She turned sharply to the nurse. “Did these two brats do anything to my grandson?
The nurse cheerfully reported, “The little girl fed Mr. Beau some soup, and he ate quite a lot! It’s the first time he’s had such a good appetite since being admitted.”
The medical staff had been worried sick about Beau’s poor appetite. This was a top–tier private hospital, and the nurses practically treated him like royalty.
But the moment Ethel heard that Beau had eaten food brought by Merida, she exploded like a firecracker.
“Stop th
Ethel immediately ordered the bodyguards, ungrateful brat!”

The Fisher family’s bodyguards obeyed without hesitation as they rushed forward. But before they could get close to Merida, Xavier’s bodyguards, who were as solid as an impenetrable fortress, blocked their way.
Ethel stormed out, shouting, “Bambi Fisher! Stop right there!
Merida, of course, ignored her. Ethel was calling for Bambl Fisher. So, what did that have to do with Merida Jones?
Ethel yelled from behind, “Don’t you dare walk away!”
She gestured frantically to the Fisher family’s bodyguards. “Catch her! Don’t just stand there!”
But the Fisher family’s bodyguards were powerless. They were just hired security from a protection agency, nowhere near the level of the elite forces guarding Xavier.
“Merida Jones! What did you feed my grandson?”
Merida paused mid–step. Oh, so Ethel actually knew her real name.
“I gave Beau the soup my mom cooked.‘
Ethel’s eyes widened in shock, as if Merida had committed an unforgivable crime.
“How could you feed my grandson something that woman cooked?”
Merida shrugged and casually replied, “Well, Beau loved it,
Realizing she couldn’t get past Xavier’s guards, Ethel grew even more furious.
She turned her anger on them. “Why are you stopping me? You work for Leonard Fisher, don’t you? You should be helping me catch that ungrateful brat and bring her to me!
One of the bodyguards replied firmly, “We only take orders from Mr. Xavier. Madam Fisher, please watch your words and actions.”
Ethel was fuming, but there was nothing she could do as she watched Merida and Xavier disappear into the elevator.
In a panic, she rushed back to the hospital room, grabbed Beau, and flipped him over so he was lying face down. “Hurry! Make him vomit! My grandson ate something filthy”
She pounded on Beau’s back, her strength making him gag painfully.
Beau let out a distressed wail. Tears streamed down his face as he cried out in pain.
