Ethel was also a bit surprised. Normally, Harvey wouldn’t even deign to say Elara’s name.
“Harvey, have you seen Elara recently?”
Harvey’s expression stiffened slightly, a cold detaclument settling over his handsome face. Even in front of his mother, he remained aloof.
“No.”
Ethel also thought it was impossible for her son to have any further involvement with Elara.
“She’s actually benefited from this mess–she’s now the acting CEO of Joss Tech!”
Ethel’s tone was dripping with sarcasm. She didn’t think much of Elara becoming the acting CEO.
“She couldn’t even manage our household properly, and now she’s running a company? Ha!” Ethel couldn’t help but laugh.
She didn’t notice Harvey’s frown.
“Anyway, Joss Tech is going to be sold. Let her play CEO for a few days and get it out of her system.”
The malice Ethel directed toward Elara was palpable, making Harvey feel slightly uncomfortable.
“Mom, did you go to Spring Garden recently…” Harvey almost asked if she had gone to Spring Garden to look for
him.
But then he remembered that everyone thought he was away on a business trip. Even Ethel might have been kept in the dark
When her son mentioned Spring Garden, Ethel’s heart skipped a beat. The events of that day still left her shaken.
Her son had been away on a business trip, and he was asking about this now that he was back. It seemed her every move couldn’t escape his notice.
However, Ethel thought Harvey was just showing concern for her.
“I’m fine,” Ethel said. “The neighborhood Elara bought is so shoddy–even the elevator broke down!”
Seeing Ethel’s reaction, Harvey understood. She had no idea he had been locked up in a room at Spring Garden. Otherwise, her response would have been very different.
Harvey asked her, “Why did you go to Spring Garden?”
“I sent you a message. Didn’t you see it? Beau vomited after eating something that little ingrate sent over.”
Normally, Harvey paid little attention to his children. He was always busy with work, and Ethel rarely bothered him with child–related matters.
When it came to the kids, Ethel usually didn’t call Harvey directly during work hours. Instead, she would send him. a dozen 60–second voice messages, rambling on about the children.
But she also knew Harvey might not even listen to them.
So, it wasn’t surprising that Harvey had no idea what had happened to Bean at the hospital.
“Who are you calling an ingrate?”

The man’s tone grew colder. Faced with his usual Melcinian–style breakfast, Harvey had even less appetite than before.
Ethel blurted out, “That little ingrate, Bambi
“She’s my daughter!” Harvey’s voice was low but sharp, carrying a chilling intensity.
Ethel shuddered as if waking from a dream, realizing she had angered Harvey with her choice of words.
“Harvey, 1-”
“If Merida is an ingrate, then what does that make me? And what does that make you?”
Ethel, after all, feared her son. “But she changed her last name…”
A wave of desolation rose in Harvey’s throat, making it hard for him to swallow, yet impossible to spit out.
“She changed her last name, not her blood. No matter what she’s still my daughter and your granddaughter! Don’t let me hear you insult her again!”
Ethel pouted unhappily. “You don’t know that she and Xavier…”
She then told Harvey about how Xavier had taken Merida to the hospital to visit Beau.
…I was so angry that I decided to stand up for my grandson and went to Spring Garden to confront that woman.”
