Theodore continued, “Starting tomorrow, will you let me pursue you properly? One day, I’ll become your rightful partner!”
The darkness concealed Elara’s expression, but their proximity allowed each to hee other’s breathing. When Elara looked up, only Theodore’s eyes burned bright in the shadows.
His breath hitched when she remained silent.
Was she refusing?
The fingers of the hand braced beside her head curled inward slowly.
Just then, the elevator doors opened, flooding the hallway with light that illuminated Elara’s profile and Theodore’s gaze. There against the wall, he saw Elara’s lips curve–her eyes sparkling with amusement.
She had guessed right. Theodore would never willingly end things. Of course, this man sought to turn passive into
active.
A contractual relationship would only trap them in stagnation, and he refused to settle for that. As Theodore opened his mouth to speak, a new shadow loomed.
Finnegan stepped out of the elevator and immediately saw Elara caged within Theodore’s arms. Dark clouds gathered over Finnegan’s expression.
“Hey!” he snapped.
Theodore didn’t even glance his way. “Hey‘ what? Can’t you see that a boyfriend is kissing his girlfriend?”
Finnegan’s gaze turned razor–sharp, ready to slice through the man before him. “You and Elara are only in a contractual relationship!”
Theodore scoffed. “Not after tomorrow.”
Finnegan froze as Theodore lifted a strand of Elara’s hair cool as satin–and pressed a lingering kiss to it.
“Goodnight, my girlfriend.”
His features were arrestingly deep–set, eyes like dark oceans that could drown anyone who looked too long. Stepping back, Theodore added cheerfully, “Shall we go together, dear brother–in–law?”
Finnegan appeared because he was responsible for looking after Merida whenever Elara returned late. Recently, Merida had been rehearsing with Finnegan, so they spent even more time together.
When he spotted Theodore’s car downstairs earlier, he rushed down, fearing Theodore might harass Elara.
Finnegan’s voice turned icy. “Who wants to walk with you? Get lost already!”
Disgust filled his expression–in his eyes, Theodore’s behavior toward Elara was no different from that of a shameless womanizer! He itched to throw Theodore out on the spot.
Elara intervened. “Go home.”
Theodore waved at her. “Then I’m off.”
His lingering gaze softened when looking at her, but the moment it shifted to Finnegan, all warmth vanished, replaced by sharp coldness.

“Finny, don’t you dare keep Elara to yourself for too long behind my back.”
His quiet warning only made Finnegan shoo him away like an annoying duck. “Scram!”
“Finn.” Elara stopped Finnegan before his hostility could escalate, stepping into the elevator first.
“Let’s go up.”

Back at the Fisher residence, Harvey returned from the hospital to find Ethel hurrying downstairs the moment he entered. She had clearly been waiting for him.
“Why didn’t you answer my calls? What exactly happened between you and Niamh? You’re already divorced from Elara–what were you even doing at Joss Tech?”
Hef voice trembled with distress as she struck her own chest with a fist.
“Harvey! How could you get involved with Niamh?”
“I didn’t get involved with Niamh! Mom, what nonsense are you spouting?”
As they argued, Beau silently wheeled himself to the stairwell on the second floor, eavesdropping on their conversation.
