Xavier eyed his surroundings warily, refusing to let anyone touch him as he walked between bodyguards. The backstage area bustled with people and large props. Some children wore exaggerated stage makeup and brightly.
colored costumes..
Like a kitten caught in traffic, Xavier trembled with fear at the unfamiliar environment.
“Xavier!” Merida’s loud, cheerful voice cut through the noise.
Spotting Merida and Elara in the crowd, Xavier’s dark eyes immediately lit up. He broke into a run toward them.
Merida dashed forward too, leaping to meet Xavier. She scooped him up effortlessly, lifting him high into the air.
Xavier soared upward, his face breaking into a smile at Merida’s beaming expression.
After spinning him around once, Merida carefully set him down–knowing more spins would make him dizzy.
“Xavier! I’m so happy you’re here! Did you come to watch my performance?”
Xavier nodded earnestly.
His fingers reached out to touch the fringes on Merida’s vibrant pink costume, his admiring smile saying everything about how beautiful she looked.
Elara approached and extended her hand. “Shall we go wait together for Merida’s show?”
Stars seemed to twinkle in Xavier’s bright eyes as he took Elara’s offered hand. They then walked into the audience seating together.
Tilly, Shirley’s mother, eyed the unfamiliar boy curiously. And who is this?”
For a moment, she’d almost mistaken him for Beau.
“His name is Xavier Fisher. He’s also a Summit Academy student, but he’s in the special education program and doesn’t attend regular classes with other children,” Elara introduced.
Hearing Elara’s explanation, Tilly understood why the boy looked unfamiliar.
“Xavier is so handsome! Hello, I’m Shirley’s mom. Do you know Shirley?”
When Tilly extended her hand, Xavier immediately stepped back.
“He’s shy around strangers,” Elara explained.
Tilly nodded understandingly, but when she sat beside Xavier, the boy trembled violently–like a fledgling separated from its nest in the crowded environment.
Elara bent down and asked gently, “May I hold you?”
Xavier nodded at her.
Elara then gathered him into her arms. Only when nestled against Elara’s chest did Xavier’s trembling gradually subside. He peeked up at Elara, and his eyes were filled with quiet devotion.
As the performance was about to begin, Rosalie arrived in the audience seating. She froze upon seeing Elara holding Xavier, as she knew the boy never allowed physical contact.
With a disdainful sniff, Rosalie took out her phone and snapped a photo. She sent it to a WhatsApp contact.

The immediate reply came: “Who is that?”
Pressing the voice message button, Rosalie spat venomously. “You’re in the same field, yet don’t recognize her? This is the famous Elara Jones!
“Who knows what tricks she used, but it seems your nephew only responds to her now.”
