Rosalie took her seat beside Harold and immediately noticed him repeatedly glancing in Elara’s direction.
“What are you looking at?” Her voice turned dangerous.
Harold instantly trembled, quickly straightening his posture. “Nothing! I wasn’t looking at anything!”
Rosalie wouldn’t let it go. “You kept staring at Elara! Why were you looking at her?”
Flames burned in Rosalie’s eyes as Harold hurriedly explained, “I just saw Xavier sitting in her lap and got curious! I never expected that child to be so close with her
He then gossiped with Rosalie, “Do you think if Elara dotes on Xavier like this, she might end up becoming Harvey’s aunt?”
A mischievous smirk spread across Harold’s face.
“Only vulgar minds would come up with such vulgar thoughts!” Rosalie snapped.
As a Fisher family member, her first reaction was utter disgust at such disgraceful speculation. How could she ever hold her head high in Capitol’s elite circles if this happened?
“How could Leonard possibly do such a thing? Forget that Bara’s secondhand goods, but she was his nephew’s wife! It would be like incest!”
Harold rubbed his chin, stealing another glance at Elara.
“After divorcing Harvey, Elara lost all backing. Now she clings to the Snapp family, but will they truly accept her? I think it’s very unlikely!
“By buttering up Xavier, she’s clearly setting her sights on Leonard.”
Harold’s eyes narrowed as he recalled the kindergarten outdoor trip incident.
To Harold, Leonard existed on another plane like an untouchable celestial being. Yet he’d shown clear anger when Elara and Xavier fell down that slope.
Of course, most assumed Leonard’s anger stemmed solely from protecting Xavier. But Harold sensed with startling clarity that his fury had burned mostly for Elara’s sake!
Only someone who harbored similar hidden desires could recognize them in others. After all, he was the same.
“If Leonard truly wants Elara, no one can stop him. So what if she was his nephew’s wife? Even if she’d been his daughter–in–law, no Fisher family members would dare oppose him!”
“You’re insane! How can you say such things?”
Rosalie hissed, frantically clamping a hand over Harold’s mouth. Her eyes darted around, terrified that Xavier’s plainclothes bodyguards might overhear this treasonous talk.
Harold shoved her away. “Relax! It’s just a hypothetical worst–case scenario.”
Rosalie stole another glance at Elara, her voice dropping to rodent–like whisper. “With Leonard’s lame legs, she can’t even crawl into his bed! She’s sucking up to Xavier just to curry favor with Leonard
“But I’ll make sure to ruin her schemes!”
Malicious triumph twisted Rosalie’s features.

Harold studied her with new wariness. “Why do you target her so aggressively?”
A paranoid thought struck him. Had Rosalie actually discovered his own forbidden fascination?
