Chapter 406
Merida’s gaze traveled over the audience and landed on Paisley, who stood timidly beside Harold.
A sudden warmth flooded Merida’s chest, and she instinctively understood why Elara had negotiated for Paisley’s sake when accepting Rosalie’s bet.
Now that she’d found the courage to stand on stage and expose Rosalie, her mother also wanted her–just five years old–to speak up against the injustices she’d witnessed.
“Ever since I met Paisley, I knew she was vegan. She’s not allowed to eat meat, or even drink milk and eggs. She can’t share school lunches or snacks with us, and she’s always hungry–her tummy growls all the time.
“I don’t want to see Paisley faint for no reason anymore. I want Ms. Fisher to honor our bet and let Paisley eat proper school meals and snacks with us.
“If Ms. Fisher won’t keep her promise-”
“Then we’ll hate you!” a child shouted from the audience.
Others quickly joined in. “You’re a liar! We don’t want you at school anymore!”
“Ms. Fisher shouldn’t be PTA president! Even we kids keep our promises when we’re group leaders!”
“Paisley faints all the time–you don’t even love your own daughter!”
The children’s blunt words hung in the air as parents murmured among themselves.
“I remember Rosalie went vegan the moment she found out she was having a girl. Said the child had to eat plant- based to ‘stay pure‘ and ‘accumulate virtue‘ or some nonsense.”
“We tried telling her before–Paisley’s too young for a vegan diet! But she insisted Paisley must eat this way from childhood to ‘summon a baby brother.‘
“She even claimed Paisley’s birth used up blessings meant for her nonexistent sibling.”
“Rosalie’s completely delusional!” Some parents shook their heads in dismay.
Desmond leaned toward the principal, asking, “Was Paisley the lead in Swan Lake earlier?“.
“Yes, she was,” the new principal, Stanley Newton, admitted while mopping his brow with a handkerchief Desmond said, “When she came onstage, I thought she was from the younger class. Her physical development lags far behind her peers. If anything happens to her at school, all of you will be held accountable!”
Stanley sighed. “Her parents are strict vegans. We can’t interfere with their parenting choices.”
“A child frequently fainting warrants intervention,” Desmond countered sharply as he tapped the judges‘ table.
As this exchange continued, Rosalie suddenly charged onto the stage. Blind with rage, she was ready to destroy Elara and Merida even if it meant mutual ruin.
“Enough, Merida! How I raise my daughter is none of your business!”
Merida didn’t flinch. Grabbing the microphone stand, the little girl dropped into a defensive archer’s stance–like a young leopard preparing to strike.
“Ms. Fisher, first, you won’t apologize, and now, you want to fight me?”
Rosalie sneered. “You think you’re worthy of my apology?”
