Chapter 47
Theodore sighed dramatically. “By the time an ambulance arrives, I’ll have bled out. Mr. Fisher, are you trying to get rid of me?”
His condition was serious, and Elara had no patience to argue with Niamh any longer.
“Get off! Stop wasting time and running your mouth!”
“If you get into an accident…”
Before Niamh could finish, an invisible pressure seemed to envelop her. When she met Elara’s gaze, a chill ran down her spine, and she nearly lost her balance despite sitting firmly on the bike.
She had never felt such an intimidating, almost chilling presence from Elara before. A sense of unease crept into Niamh’s heart.
“Elara, I’m warning you–don’t act recklessly.”
“You’re the one dragging this out, Niamh! That’s not like you.”
Niamh pouted. If Elara wanted to throw her life away, so be it. She wouldn’t stop her. She even hoped she’d crash face–first and break her nose and teeth!
Reluctantly, Niamh dismounted the bike.
Elara then extended her hand. “Give me the keys.”
Niamh tossed them carelessly, but Elara caught them with ease. Turning to Finnegan, Elara instructed, “Finn, take Bambi to the hotel first.”
But Bambi hesitated. “I want to go to the hospital. I’m worried about Mr. Theodore… Even if I can’t do anything to help…”
Theodore’s voice was gentle. “As long as Bambi is with me, I won’t feel any pain.”
Elara glanced at Finnegan. “Please take her to the Twain Hospital then.”
Finnegan nodded and led Bambi to his off–road vehicle.
“Bambi!” Harvey called out. “Come to Daddy.”
Bambi’s dark, clear eyes locked onto him. She looked like a wary little beast, completely on guard against him. She shook her head. “Daddy, what will it take for me to be free from you completely?”
Harvey felt like he had stepped onto a free–fall ride, being yanked downward with no control. “Bambi! Why would you say that?”
Bambi’s expression darkened. After all, Theodore had gotten hurt saving her. And the one who shot the arrow… was her own twin brother, Beau.
A wave of emotions pressed down on her, too overwhelming for her small frame to process. Finnegan lifted Bambi into the vehicle, and Harvey turned to look elsewhere.
Elara swung her leg over the motorcycle and turned her head slightly. “Mr. Snapp, hold on tight. I’ll get you to the hospital as quickly as possible.”
Theodore’s voice was light as he responded, “Ms. Jones, I apologize for the intrusion.”

His strong arms then wrapped around Elara’s slender waist. He lowered his thick lashes, and he unconsciously held his breath.
Strangely, the pain in his back seemed to fade away. He wouldn’t mind bleeding out completely for this moment
alone.
Harvey’s temple throbbed violently. He clenched his fists as veins bulged against his skin.
“Elara, be careful not to crash!” Niamh shouted sarcastically.
“If you can’t handle it, let me take over!” She stepped forward, but Elara revved the engine, blowing exhaust directly into Niamh’s face before speeding off.
Elara and Theodore disappeared into the night.
Beau’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Mommy knows how to ride a motorcycle?”
Niamh coughed and spat out the fumes with her hands on her hips. “Your mom just always has to prove herself, never caring about anyone else.”
Then she hurried after Harvey.
“My bike’s gone! Harvey, give me a ride back.”
The man stopped in his tracks. His gaze was as cold as a blade, sending a shiver down Niamh’s spine.
“Stay away from Beau for the time being.”
Niamh’s expression darkened. “What, you think I corrupted Beau?”
Beau stood to the side with his head hanging low, looking completely lost.
Niamh glanced at him and defended, “Beau didn’t mean to hurt Bambi! He just wanted to help you!”
Beau’s eyes lit up with hope. Ultimately, only Niamh understood him. He just wanted his father’s approval.
But the icy glare Harvey gave him made Beau tremble.
“Come with me to the hospital and apologize to Bambi!”
