Beau was so frightened by Harvey’s overwhelming presence that his eyes filled with tears.
Niamh quickly comforted him. “Beau, you and Bambi are siblings. She’ll definitely forgive you!”
She glanced at Harvey, and said in a light and teasing tone, I always thought Theodore looked approachable, but his personality is even colder than yours.
“Who would’ve thought he’d risk his life to save someone? That’s rare.”
Drawing out the last syllable, she then added, “By the way, noticed Elara getting out of Theodore’s car earlier. Since when did those two become so close?
“Hey! Harvey, wait for me!”
Niamh saw Harvey turn and walk away without even acknowledging her words. She quickly chased after him.
At the hospital, Theodore was placed on the operating table
Lying on his stomach, he smirked at the lead surgeon. “You can charge me double for the surgery–I’ll make the Eishers cover the bill.”
The surgeon, who was an old acquaintance, sliced open Theodore’s shirt with a scalpel while teasing, “I’d say you’re the one skinning people alive. Should I exaggerate your injuries a little to make that woman cry her eyes out?”
Theodore crossed his arms under his chin and chuckled. “No need. I can’t bear to see her feeling guilty, let alone crying.”
“Oh? What’s this? That sharp tongue of yours, once dipped in venom, now drips with honey? Let me touch this poisonous snake’s blood! Oh my, it’s actually warm!”
Theodore turned his head slightly, eyes narrowing. “Are you looking to get reported? Three years of license suspension or a full department review–your choice?”
The surgeon scoffed. “Be careful, or I might stitch your wound to look like a second butthole!”
Meanwhile, Elara stood waiting outside the operating room
Bambi, who was staring at the tightly shut doors, had bloodshot eyes. She clutched Elara’s hand, unsure of what to do.
Elara was about to comfort her daughter when she spotted Harvey approaching with Beau.
Harvey ordered his son, who was hiding behind him, “Go apologize to Bambi!”
Beau refused to step forward..
What was the point of apologizing? His mother would just start lecturing him again, take away his mechanical crossbow, and maybe even spank him!
He hated how strict Elara was.
Harvey’s patience snapped. “Beau! Do it!”
“Harvey, Beau already knows he was wrong.” Niamh spoke up in Beau’s defense.

Chapter 48
The boy whimpered, then spun around and clung tightly to Niamh’s leg. Nlamh was the best. She was his safe
haven.
A sense of triumph swelled in Niamh’s chest as she gently patted Beau’s back. “Beau was only thinking about this family. If Elara hadn’t taken Bambi and made such a mess about the divorce, none of this would’ve happened!” “The mechanical crossbow–you gave it to him, didn’t you?” Elara’s voice was calm as she asked her.
Niamh could then sense that Harvey’s gaze turned icy as it landed on her.
Niamh quickly defended herself. “Boys are naturally playful, Elara. He’s your son!”
Elara looked at Beau’s little head which was covered in soft black hair. This was the child she had carried for ten months–the baby she had tirelessly cared for and loved with her whole heart.
And yet, the arrow he had shot at Bambi had also pierced Elara’s heart, twisting in her chest until every organ spasmed in pain.
The bond between them, the invisible thread that once connected them as mother and son, was severed completely in that moment.
“I don’t have a son like that. I gave up on him long ago.”
Beau, who was still clinging to Niamh’s leg, turned to sneak a glance at Elara’s face.
Her expression was cold, like a frozen lake covered in a thin layer of frost.
Why wouldn’t Elara even look at him?
He bit his lower lip, still hesitating–should he apologize to Bambi or not?
But Niamh had told him he did nothing wrong.
“Bambi is the bad one!” Beau suddenly yelled. “She made Daddy upset! Even if my arrow had hit her, she would’ve deserved it!”
