“If Elara had continued her PhD and pursued a career in research, she would have achieved far more than I have today,” Jasper stated.
“What a top–tier case of throwing away a brilliant future for love!”
“She might as well have written ‘foraging wild vegetables for seven years‘ on her résumé.”
“The heavens gifted her an extraordinary mind, and she used it to be a housewife and raise kids.”
“But why did Ms. Jones suddenly decide to compete in a math competition?”
Jasper couldn’t quite figure it out either. He could only sigh and say, “I hope that one day, I’ll have the chance to work alongside her.”
The elevator doors slid open, and Jasper stepped out. The employees continued their discussion..
“For Elara Jones to suddenly enter a math competition… Her marriage must have hit a rough patch.”
“It could also be that her husband is the one supporting her participation in ALI’s competition?”
“If her husband really supported her from the start, why did he only let her study up to a bachelor’s degree?”
“Alas! Women shouldn’t revolve around men! No education, no love, and in the end, you have to earn your own future!”
As they exited the elevator, one of them muttered, “Damn, the air conditioning in there was freezing.”
Now, only Harvey and Cyrus remained in the elevator. Cyrus didn’t dare meet Harvey’s gaze the entire time.
The one who had taken first place in the ALI Math Competition was undoubtedly the boss‘ wife, yet these employees had no fear, blurting out every inconvenient truth that came to mind!
Harvey shoved one hand into his trouser pocket and strode out of the elevator, heading directly toward the conference room.
Fisher Corp’s shareholders had been waiting for him for quite some time. As soon as he arrived, they eagerly came forward.
“Mr. Fisher, congratulations! We read that your wife took first place in the ALI Math Competition!”
“Mr. Fisher, your wife has caused a media sensation! I heard that Gingham TV reporters have already gone to interview her.”
“Harvey, keep talent within the family! You should bring your wife into the company immediately! I never imagined she was such an expert in mathematics.
“If she joins the tech department, it would strengthen our reputation even more. The CEO of Nexus Global Technologies Group already caught wind of this–he’s now even more confident in Fisher Corp!
“He’s willing to add another six billion in investments for our tech division.”
Harvey looked up and saw the large conference screen displaying the CEO of Melcina’s top investment company, who was attending the meeting remotely due to the time difference.
“Congratulations, Harvey. Your wife outperformed the technical consultant I hired at a high price in the preliminary round.”
Even through the screen, it was clear that the NGT Group’s CEO now saw Harvey in a different light.

The room was filled with laughter and enthusiastic chatter but Harvey’s expression remained as cold and unreadable as ever, making it impossible to gauge his true emotions.
“It was just the preliminaries,” he said modestly.
“My wife hasn’t participated in many competitions. She doesn’t realize that experienced contestants never reveal their full strength in the preliminary rounds. They control their scores, only solving enough problems to secure a passing score before moving on.”
There was a trace of disdain in Harvey’s tone. “Yet she foolishly scored so high and made herself an easy target.” The CEO of NGT Group chuckled. “You Euconians are always so humble!”
One of the shareholders who was holding his phone chimed in. “I got early access to the Gingham TV interview with Mrs. Fisher. Let’s watch it together!”
The shareholders were eager to seal the additional six billion investment from NGT Group for Fisher Corp’s tech division. They wanted to showcase Elara’s talent in front of the CEO of NGT Group.
The NGT Group’s CEO seemed intrigued. “Sounds good. Please cast Mrs. Fisher’s interview onto the conference screen. I know a little Euconian–I can understand what she’s saying.”
Harvey’s lips parted slightly. He realized that his first instinct was to stop them, yet he hesitated as there was an unfamiliar feeling creeping in.
How ridiculous. What was there to be afraid of?
Elara had simply entered the ALI Math Competition to prove herself to him. Many past top 20 ALI competitors had gone on to hold key positions at Fisher Corp.
She was still waiting, wasn’t she? Waiting for Harvey to lower his pride, to beg her to return to the Fisher family, and to plead for her to join Fisher Corp.
A scoff escaped his throat. Then, Elara’s voice from the interview echoed from the speakers in the vast conference
room.
“Your daughter took your last name?”
“Yes.”
“Then may I ask about your husband…”
“I’m divorced. My ex–husband isn’t even worth mentioning.”
