- 10.
That night, everyone else in the department
left, but I was still working.
Lily brought Mark to my department.
Lily told him. “Mark. Maggie threw hot coffee
<
at me. She ruined my white dress. She’s out
of control.”
Mark walked up to me. “Maggie, apologize to
Lily.”
I said, “She threw water at me first. She
should apologize.”
“You were flirting with her boyfriend. She’s
allowed to teach you a lesson, but you
shouldn’t have thrown coffee at her,” Mark
said. “Apologize. I’m not gonna say it again.”
“won’t apologize if you say it a hundred
times,” I said. I grabbed my phone and sent
Richard a message: “Dad, come to my office.”
Mark grabbed my phone and threw it in the
trash.
“I saw Dad leave already. You can’t use him
to scare me,” he said.
I calmly said, “I’m not apologizing. What are
you gonna do? Bully me?”
Mark gave Lily a look. “Lily, make a cup of
coffee. Throw it at her. I’ll back you up.
“Thanks, Mark,” Lily said. She went to make
coffee.
Mark sat down and glared at me. “You
shouldn’t have come back.”
I said, “You’re the reason I got kidnapped. Looks like you don’t feel bad at all.”
“Why should I? Mom and Dad always blamed me,” he said. “I wish you died out there. I wish
you never came back.”
“Too bad for you. Other kids get kidnapped
and tortured. You got to live a good life,” I
said.
He looked angry. “When I see a homeless kid
begging on the street, I hope it’s you.”
I was shaking. “You’re evil.”
Mark smirked. “Since you decided to come
back, don’t blame me for what happens to
you. I’m gonna show you what hell is like.”
I looked at his face and calmed down.
L
I told myself, “Mark, I’ve already been to hell.
It’s your turn.”
While we were talking, Lily made coffee. She
walked over with a cup.
She was about to throw it at me when
Richard yelled, “Stop!”
