Carol said it was my choice.
I took a few weeks to consider.
Richard and Susan called me a few times.
I heard Mark was back from Europe.
After Lily got slapped, she went to a club and
got drunk. Mark picked her up and carried her
home.
She cried all night.
Mark felt terrible.
The next day, Mark took her shopping.
He spent a ton of money.
Finally made his little princess happy.
She asked Mark, “If Maggie comes back, who
would you help?”
Mark patted her head. “Silly. Of course, I’d
help you. I grew up with you. She’s nothing.”
Lily was happy. She took Mark’s hand.
“You’re the best.”
Mark has a girlfriend overseas, a wealthy
heiress.

I agreed to work at their company.
When I said I wasn’t coming back, I was
stalling for time.
Of course, I was coming back. How else
would I get revenge?
Mark’s actions haunted me. My misery was
because of him. I was going to make his life a
living hell.
The next day, Richard and Susan picked me
- up.
Since I wasn’t ready to move in, they found
me a place near the office. I was going to
start out in the R&D department as a
technician.
On the weekend, my parents invited me to
dinner. The housekeeper made a ton of food.
Mark and Lily were there too.
This was the first time we all ate together.
Mark was cold to me. He didn’t want me
there

After I was kidnapped, my parents blamed
him, saying if he hadn’t begged them to take
him on the Ferris wheel, I never would have
gotten taken.
He was punished for years, so he hated me.
Lily was his angel. After he got in trouble, Lily
would give him candy and tell him, “Don’t be
sad. You have me.”
Lily was his one source of joy, and I was the
devil who dragged him down.
At dinner, Richard tried to lighten the mood.
“Maggie, you don’t have a boyfriend yet, do
you? Maybe we could find someone for you.”
I was about to say no, when Susan cut in. “I
think the second son of the Jiang family
would be a good match. We’ve been planning
a marriage alliance with the Jiangs…
Before Susan could finish, Lily interrupted,
“Mom, didn’t you want me to go out with Jeff
Jiang a little while ago? Are you going to let
Chapter Two
Susan just chuckled. “Yesterday at tea with
Janet Jiang, she mentioned that Jeff wasn’t
really into you. Looks like the marriage isn’t
gonna happen, so I thought Maggie could
give it a shot.”
Lily’s face fell. “Janet Jiang is full of it. Jeff
and I are perfect together. He even asked me
to a concert!”
Richard jumped in. “Okay, okay. You and Jeff
can keep seeing each other.”
Lily perked up. “Don’t worry, Mom and Dad.
I’ll win over Jeff Jiang.”
Mark put down his fork, his face like thunder.
He stood up. “I’m done. I’m going to my
room.”
Lily took a couple bites and followed him.
“Mom, Dad, Mark doesn’t feel well. I’m gonna
check on him.”
