I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. “Breaking up with you, blocking you, and moving out… do you really think I’m just throwing a tantrum?”
“Isn’t that what it is?” Ryan asked, his tone dismissive. He raised his hand, instinetively reaching out to pat my head, just like he used to do to calm me down.
ļ
This time, I recoiled in disgust, stepping back without a second thought.
Ryan’s hand froze in mid–air. His eyes flickered with confusion as if he were trying to figure something out.
Then, he saw it. My eyes were cold, distant–like I was looking at a stranger.
For a moment, Ryan’s hand trembled, and his expression faltered. He stepped forward, trying to get closer, but I quickly shot back, “Mr. Menzie, aren’t you worried about Miranda getting upset?”

At the mention of her name, Ryan’s temper flared again.
He yelled, his voice rising in frustration, “Susan, I’ve explained this to you already. There’s nothing between me and Miranda! Why do you keep bringing it up?”
Every time Miranda was mentioned, Ryan would lose control, as if I had accused him of something unforgivable.
“Really?” I nearly screamed, my voice full of hatred. “The day before the piano competition, you locked me on the balcony to keep me from competing with Miranda. I spent the whole night in the cold, missed the competition the next day, and ended up with a fever… You even broke my fingers just to keep her happy! You ruined my chance of joining the orchestra, and now I may never be able to play again.”
I choked up at that thought. “Do you admit to doing all that, huh? This was my mom’s last wish! I prepared for this opportunity for so long, and you destroyed it!”
Ryan was stunned. He looked at me, completely frozen. “Your mom’s last wish?”
I couldn’t stop the tears from falling as I continued, “You knew joining the orchestra was Miranda’s mother’s wish, but did you know my mom’s dying wish was for me to join the orchestra too?”
Ryan’s face turned pale as he processed my words.
His mouth opened, as if he wanted to explain himself, but no words came out.
In the end, he just clenched his fists, his face drained of color as he stood silently in the middle of the room.
He had nothing left to say.
Seeing him stand there, speechless, I turned my back on him and walked away with the
movers.
