Chapter 20 Whatever You Desire
“Understood?” Christopher asked.
Husband? Her anger had finally compelled her to lift her head, glaring at him with fury.
His overbearing, unquestionable demeanor had made it seem as though whatever he declared must be true. She cursed him internally. How annoying.
But she hadn’t realized that in his eyes, she resembled a stray cat that had been cornered–claws extended but too afraid to strike.
Christopher suddenly pressed a hand against the wall and leaned closer, their breaths quickly entwining into an ambiguous rhythm. His deep voice broke the tension, “Are you angry?”
She turned her face away, furious but unwilling to argue further.
Christopher’s sharp gaze remained fixed on her, he then unexpectedly laughed, causing her cheeks to flush red with anger as she blurted out, “You’re not my husband anymore.”
“Should we call the lawyer right now to confirm whether I still am or not?” Christopher rebutted.
She was utterly unsure. He always had the upper hand, wanting whatever outcome he desired with just a word, but what about her?
In the two days since his return, they had spoken more than in the past two years combined. But ………… .less would have been better.
He spoke again, saying, “Stay here and do your job obediently, and I promise no one will mistreat or gossip about you. As long as it’s what you want, I can give it to you.”
“All I want is freedom.” She declared firmly.
“Lucy, staying here is your freedom.” Christopher replied, his voice deep and resolute. He knew she wanted to leave, but he couldn’t let her. As for the reason…….
Christopher stared at her for a long moment before his gaze inadvertently drifted downward. When it landed on her petite frame, his thoughts wandered.
Lucy had no idea where his mind had gone. He quickly turned away, as if nothing had happened, casually returning to his original position, his back to her. “Get back to work.”
“I won’t.” She asserted stubbornly.
Hearing her defiance, Christopher turned his sharp gaze on her, his voice low and commanding. “Lucy, don’t force me to embarrass you right here.”
Another threat. Unable to hold back her curiosity, she asked, “And how exactly does Mr. Dale plan to embarrass me?”
Christopher let out an amused huff, she was just like an agitated stray cat. He set down the document in his hands with his slender fingers and began walking toward her again.
Lucy’s heart raced. She opened the door and bolted out.
Tcan go in Lucy.” A voice said.
“Emily.” Lucy froze.
Emily, who suddenly appeared at the door, also froze.
Lucy’s heart skipped a beat. Subconsciously, she turned to look at Christopher. His expression was less dangerous now. He coolly said, “You can get back to work now.”

“There’s no need for such formality between us.” Christopher said, his tone was gentle and considerate.

Lucy closed the door behind them, her heart heavy with bitterness. He was different with Emily, he was caring and gentle.
After all, she was his childhood sweetheart. How could she, someone who appeared in his life so suddenly, ever compare?
As Lucy walked away, the door behind her opened again, and a familiar voice rang out, “Mrs. Wines, please bring me a cup of floral tea. Oh, and make sure it’s safe for pregnant women. Thank you!”
